Re: Ramps or a pit ?
I knew I could count on you guys to point out the pro's & con's on everything.
Like I said, a lift is not an option right now. I use jack stands when I have too but I'm not crazy about it, especially if you have to run the engine. I rocked my old truck off stands once. Solid motor mounts and enough torque to lift one wheel when I could get it to hook up. A friend told me today that he had some ramps from where he used to work that they used to drive forklifts onto. Said I could have them, just have to modify them to fit the car. So, I guess it'll be ramps.

Re: Ramps or a pit ?
I'm surprized none of you Maro/Bird guys mentioned this. Just jack the car up high enough to get the ramps under the wheels then let the car down. That way you don't tear up the ground effects. And you don't have to modify the ramps and fear that your mods. may not be strong enough to hold. I also put jackstands under the car just incase the ramps don't hold. The only problem is if you want to work with the tire/tires off, then the ramp just gets in the way. But, I am scared to death of having a car fall on me so I go alittle overboard with safety (jackstands, ramps, concrete blocks, wheels laying flat under the lowest point of the car). Sometimes all of that at the same time! But you know they always say "better safe than sorry".

Re: Ramps or a pit ?
With all that safety conciousness going on there, you don't feel the slightest bit uneasy jacking the car up so high that it's probably only making conact with 20% of the lift pad so you can get a ramp under it? |

No. Because then you get the stands and ramps under it, then you're fine. Just a regular floor jack. Not the spare jack or some little cheapy from Wally World. |
