Why, gentlemen? What do you get from such excess? I have spent a day at the range, and it was okay as fun goes, but why the excess?
Collecting is a hobby of mine. A lot of mine either haven't been shot or not shot by me. I've got a large assortment of modern guns (such as a Belgium made Browning 7mm, and a Remington Model 1100 Semi Auto 12 Ga) but prefer the less common types or ones with a history, such as old western revolvers or guns like the ones below. These are 22 derringers. One is a single shot (Little Ace), the other is a 4 shot pepperbox (Four Aces). They're about 50 years old, and were made by a guy name Erl Svendsen in Chicago, he had hoped to start a successful business but was run out of town because he refused to pay off the police or mob. I still have the original boxes that they came in.

Re: VT Shooting

A little offtopic ......

More facts like the USA having way more (craxy)people and way to many guns available, meaning the gun makers make too damn many IMO.

I dont call it excess, only during the warmer months do I shot so often.
If I am going to own guns, then I should be proficient in accuracy and safty.

It's kind of a stress release for me, my firends and I have fun doing things that are challenging.
Try 3" cirlces at 200-300 yards, with a hand gun

Nice deringers Blazee!

I own several guns too that I have not been shot , and a few that are against the law to shoot(full auto) without the proper permits. But its legal for me to posses them, another loop hole in gun control.

Kinda like the loop hole that allowed Cho to buy a gun.
Indiana laws are very simular, one has too be declared metally incompatent before they are denied purchase of a firearm.
Which is mostly people with manic-depressive disorder and schizophrenics.... and Felons.

What we don't need is a knee jerk reaction banning strictly handguns or following some other country's irrelevant restrictive gun laws because that would be met by stiff opposition getting us nowhere.

The Federal lawmakers are currently working on one such loophole brought about in Cho's case. It appears to have bipartisan support. IMO it is a step in the right direction even if we have to do it one step at a time.

Quote:
WASHINGTON -- Grappling with the deadliest shooting spree in U.S. history, lawmakers said Sunday they want to eliminate a gap between state and federal laws that can allow someone with a history of mental illness to buy guns.

Members of Congress have shown little political appetite, however, for attempting to expand federal gun control in response to the massacre at Virginia Tech.

Seung-Hui Cho, who gunned down 32 people on campus and killed himself Monday, was evaluated at a psychiatric hospital in late 2005 and deemed by a judge to present "an imminent danger to himself as a result of mental illness." That should have disqualified him from purchasing a gun under federal law, experts say.

Lawmakers Want to Close Gaps in Gun Laws

Such a closed mind.....

Here's an interesting article that bnaylor might have found if he wasn't too busy trying to divert attention.

You crack me up Taranaki. Closed minded...no. Pragamatic....yes.

I don't need to search all over the Internet for my info but it is an interesting article. I have some first hand knowledge of it. What do you know about Kennesaw Georgia? Ever lived there or in the Atlanta area? Technically, it is now a suburb of metro Atlanta. Trust me you would probably feel very uncomfortable there.

BTW - My #2 son was born in the next town over, Marietta (Cobb County).

Only slightly off topic... I visited Atlanta in late March, and I had an amazing time... even if the whole damn city shuts down at 5pm

As for guns, I don't like them personally, but I do like that I could get one if I felt I needed one... but working on school campuses primarily, I'd pretty much never get to carry it.

Re: VT Shooting

I just remember the last 3-4 times I've been in Atlanta,
I heard gun fire in the background during the day and night :disaapoin

Though I have heard the crime rate has dropped.
Probly because they are all dead or in jail
