Re: 20 Psi!?!

burning of oil from the tail pipe isn't from a leak on the outside of the turbo. If the inside of your turbo is leaking oil due to poor seals, it won't get on the outside, it will just burn through the exhaust, or it will run through your intercooler pipes as well. Check your IC pipes for oil. If your turbo is blowing oil through the exhaust, I would highly recommend that they be rebuilt or get new turbos. As far as the outside goes, start your car and look on top of the turbo and see if you see oil coming out from the oil feedline. If you can get up underneath, check the oil return line at both the turbo and the oil pan.

Re: 20 Psi!?!

That brings me to my other question. I had the car hauled last night to a private mechanic who fixed the envoy for about 1/3 the price of GMC and did a good jub, and the guy has not really had a chance to look over it real well. But so far he things that the stuff inside the cartridge of the turbo is broke. He claims it can not be rebuilt because no one knows the tollerances of it. (He got this info from mitsubishi....) I also talked to the guy who owned it and builds on turbo cars and he claims he can rebuild it for no fee.
I think Mitsu is tryng to make money....
Can it be rebuilt? or should i get looking for used ones?

Re: 20 Psi!?!

Turbos can be rebuilt, but alot of times the kits and labor is so expensive you would just be better off going with new. Depends on how much it will cost you to rebuild. imo, Id just go with new ones, then you will have a little peace of mind.

Re: 20 Psi!?!

i believe forced performance rebuilds turbos for $350/each

but yes, they can be rebuilt, unless the housing is destroyed which is very very unlikely
