Re: 20 Psi!?!

A) are you sure the boost controller is in right
B) pressure test, presssure test, pressure test...
C) does it have a normal vacuum line running to it, or one of those plastic autometer lines that pinch alot. When I had one of those in, I was getting all kinds of weird readings until I switched to a normal vacuum line.
D) I havn't looked at my mbc in awhile, but you wanna back the screw out to turn it down...which means it's probably counterclockwise to turn it down. When it's almost all the way out, you should be at wastegate pressure (~7psi)
E) Are you datalogging?

Re: 20 Psi!?!

a)yes, pretty sure i did not install it but it appears to be correct.
b)How do I do a pressure test exactly?
c)I'm not sure wat normal ones are cuz i never had a turbo car before, but it has thick rubber hoses.
D) http://www.turboxs.com/faq/tyrboxsstd.htm -controller. is says clock wise for down i think its a wierd one.
E)no.

Any ideas? I dont feel safe driving it when it spikes soo high on boost....

Re: 20 Psi!?!

what turbos are you running? Just curious. Anyways, my guess is that your wastegates are disconnected. Doing this will cause a slight boost leak, but at the same time your turbos will be spinning as fast as possible which could cause a 20 psi spike. If you don't know where to check, locate each of your turbos. On the compressor side (the side that connects to the intake) look for an additional looking piece that sits on top of the turbo and has a small vacuum hose coming from it. Follow the vacuum hose until you see the end of or get to the boost controller, then make sure the other line is connected to the back of the y-pipe. If everything looks connected then unplug your boost controller and plug the hose directly into the back of the y-pipe, then go for a test drive. If your running somewhere around 6 psi then something is wrong with the boost controller. If your still running 20 psi, then something is wrong with the wastegates. Those are the only 3 problems that could cause whats happening to you.

Re: 20 Psi!?!

Also look for cracks in the lines.. even if the lines are conected if you have a leak you wont have as much pressure to your wastgate to get it open

Re: 20 Psi!?!

Last night something bad happened. I bypassed the boost controll and took it for a spin. I gave it gass and the boost read 7 or so, but then it bounced to 2 and back to 7 then 0. I looked back and i was smoking bad!!! I was really close to home about 3 miles, so i putted back home. It turns out i leaked all of my oil out of my exhaust and my underbody somewhere by the engine.. The motor only has 2k miles on it. I figured the oil filter fell of so i checked that and it was ok. I think I saw a gasket kinda sticking out of place kindof under the front turbo area. The engine sounded fine getting home and had no unusual sounds, but i lost all of my oil and smoked beyond bad.... any ideas?

Re: 20 Psi!?!

Wait you drove home on no oil? Stop driving the car. If you cannot find the leak, get it towed to a mechanic who can.

Re: 20 Psi!?!

he's lucky that with no oil, he got home, thank god it was only 3miles, no oil in car, or for that matter any engine equals one hell of a bill at the mechanics

i agree. there was a guy near me who just finished his TT conversion, drove the car for a few tuning pulls. when he brought it back home, checked the oil, and only 1/2 qt drained out!!! i just helped him swap everything over to his new shortblock. expensive lesson.

Re: 20 Psi!?!

20psi is nothing. LOL When you see a 30psi boost gauge pegged hard you know youre hitting some serious boost. LMAO STUPID MBC.

Re: 20 Psi!?!

spray the crap out of the bottom of your car with a water hose, put oil in the motor, and turn the engine on. Look up under the car and see if you can find where its leaking. If you find any oil then you've found your leak

anyways, look around the rear main seal (transmission area) at both turbos, near the oil pump, oil pan, and the heads.

Re: 20 Psi!?!

The oil seems to be coming from the front turbo or right by it. Do you think a hose or something could have got messed up?

Re: 20 Psi!?!

I am thinking it has to do with the turbo because oil was coming out of the tail pipe as well as up front by the turbo area. Would that cause a huge amount of smoking as well?
