I really like an idea like this, because it seems a lot cheaper than drag racing, but I'm wondering if the students like alternative energy as much as say Fighting Cancer or AIDS. It's definitely up there on our list.

It's a car club, they're not expecting you to cure cancer.

Agreed.

Build it up around a theme of some sort (anti-cancer sounds hilarious btw, isn't cancer awareness or something a little better?)

Hell, put giant boobs on it and base it around breast cancer awareness.

In any case, when you're done, auction it off and donate the proceeds to charity.

Haha... that's a good idea. They can put it in a parade and post vids on the Internet and get lots of exposure... hoping, of course, the school is cool with y'all building a car with giant boobs on it. Still, I bet it would bring in more money. Then you cover your losses and donate the rest to charity as stated.

I wouldn't be able to hold my wrench steady, I'd be laughing too hard. That is a very interesting idea though. Definitely get lots of exposure.

Re: Charity Project Car

You' re thinking too small.

Do a 'monster garage' type project for the local school for the intellectually disabled. Get hold of an old school bus,talk up a wheelchair lift and some decent seats.The motors are practically bulletproof, but you could give it a wicked paintjob. Hit your college up for funding, and if they decline, point out what bad publicity it would be if the college became known as 'the school who wouldn't fund it's students to help the disabled'. Put some seriously large rims on it and tint the windows.

But please, make it a full-size bus. A short bus would be just wrong.

Re: Charity Project Car

I'm not about to play hard ball with my benefactors ^^;

Back to the green car idea, you were saying it's too expensive? because I'm interested, what do other colleges do? I was thinking about building a car to work on Ethanol, and very soon a Mobil 1 station near us is opening up to provide 85% Ethanol for flex fuel cars.

Just throwing that idea out there

Re: Charity Project Car

I think refurbishing a bus for a local disabled centre is a good idea as it has a wider level of potential support and is good press for all sides.

That is a good idea, but I don't know if they would consider letting us store it in the bus depot. The problem with getting something 'big' is that UA has no garages, so we'll have enough trouble storing a small car. That aside, working on a whole bus must be awesome.
