Charity Project Car

Hi AF I'm Dyno(Dan) and I'm the president of my college's Auto Club. I reopened it and did some renovating but we haven't done anything but bought some tools and talked about racing. The Club has to survive so I took it upon myself to start a discussion about our brand new PROJECT. I had no idea what we were gonna do OR how we were going to get funding for it. Well tonight ironically just before my meeting was the single most mandatory all club and senators meeting, just 1 hour before my club meeting. I heard about how many clubs got recognized by both the sstudents and the college for fundraising for charity. Now how would it be possible to get a small budget from UA to to buy a junked car that will henceforth belong to UA, and the club gets to build it back into shape, and we get sufficient, maybe even righteous funding for it? The Car that we're building has to have something to do with a Charity.

Some ideas so far, paint Anti Cancer all over the Car and display it somewhere, build a green car to raise awareness towards needing a new energy source, there's tons of things we could theoretically do. Have it say anti-cancer and hire a racer to 'display' it in the quarter mile, that was a good idea! Members aren't insured by the college to race at all though.

That's where AF comes in...any ideas?
just want to say, I implore you guys to be realistic about this, but no bad manners. This is possible and we're not giving up. We just have no idea what to do and our deadline is March 16th!!

Re: Charity Project Car

Hmmm, definitely alot of possibilities, but I'd imagine funding would be unwordly difficult to get. But a few ideas maybe: Pink drag Civic (yes pink) for like maybe cancer awareness. Or maybe build up a Miata, ya know just something relatively cheap. Maybe even walk a junkyard to look for ideas. I say get over the funding hump first.

I think a green car would expensive as fuck though. The cancer/breast cancer awareness would be the easiest way to go. Or maybe somehow get involved in raising money for the school?

I figure we just buy the junk car for 300-500 and then fundraise for the parts, that then directly supports the charity with exposure.

Re: Charity Project Car

What you could do is get a junked car and rebuild it and then give it to a group that helps out single mother's that have sought shelter after a bad situation and are now or soon to be getting back on their feet with their family. My firm did this two holidays ago with the Safe Harbor group. One woman with a bunch of kids was able to get all 4 of her children nice presents for x-mas including bicycles etc. AND the firm was able to contribute enough to replace the transmission in the woman's car so she could transport her children to school and take herself to a new job and get back on her feet.

So you what you can do is propose this idea to the university committee that you'd like to take a POS car and with funding from the school put it back together and donate it to a needy family or something. You don't have to build a racecar. The only way that would work is it was donated to a charity group that auctioned it off and then sent you back some of the proceeds.

Re: Charity Project Car

building on my idea before, maybe after you build it up you could take it to a track or something, arrange with the people who run the track to pay a certain amount to run all day, then you could charge a few dollars to let people go in the passenger seat (or drive, if you want) while you run the quarter.

after making some money off that, auction the car off and you'd have both the money from the track and the auction money to go to charity.

Re: Charity Project Car

Restore an old muscle car and sell it in a charity auction.

Re: Charity Project Car

I'd do a drag team for charity type deal. Give the winning money to charity at the end of the season.

Re: Charity Project Car

what about getting a vdub or some other deisel car, fix it up, and make it run on cooking oil or bio deisel or something to premote alternative fuels. im sure that would go over well with the school. then auction it off for a charity. just a thought.
