Okay I have to ask this newbie question.
![]() So I see this bottle at the hobby store, and it's labeled as Tamiya X-20A Thinner. Is this used for diluting acrylic paints, OR cleaning acrylic paints off of paintbrushes? |

Well, you can use it for both.. but it's a waste of money to use it to wash out your brushes... just use water, or windshield washer fluid to clean your brushes.. the thinner is for thinning.. mainly for airbrush use and washes.

It will seem so simple...
![]() Use thinner for thinning. Use soap and water for cleaning. I've never had trouble cleaning my brushes and airbrush parts with anything more than hand soap and warm water (and maybe some scrubbing.) |

Buy Tamiya thinner in those big 250 mL bottles...it will last you a lifetime for airbrushing (if you even need it...I rarely thin my Tamiya paints for airbrushing)
It's absolutely imperative to use with gloss colors when airbrushing, as it maintains the gloss, however regular rubbing alcohol is fine to use with flat colors when airbrushing. Use regular rubbing alcohol or denatured alcohol or soap/water to clean your brushes. Use windex, or denatured alcohol, or rubbing alcohol to clean your airbrush. To get rid of any dried up paint on your airbrush, use lacquer thinner. |

I do exactly the opposite and buy the small jars as when empty they are great for mixing colours for airbrushing.
I do that with the X-18 bottles I run through
