Is the HUMBROL AIR GUN + POWERPACK KIT ANY GOOD?

Hi
I have just started out on building kits in general and was wonder if the humbrol air gun (the product that uses cans rather than a compressor as source of airsupply) any good?
http://airfix.com/cs/resources/Resou...s/airbrush.jpg
As of now of i am just using tamiya spray paint for most colours, But am planning on buying one of these for colours that are not available in the ts range.
i know people are gonna recommend a normal airbrush with a commpressor.
But the reason why i want to buy this is because i am still not sure if i might be buliding kits say six months from now (cheap and temporary).

thanks in advance for you opinion

andy

Honestly?

If you are not sure yet that you will be building still in 6 months - save your money.

The chances are the humbrol airbrush will just frustrate you and then you DEFINITELY won't be building still in 6 months.

Air cans are a poor and horribly expensive way of powering your airbrrush, too. So you will just spend more money anyway.

When you decide to get an airbrush - don't skimp. Spend decent money 50-150USD on a decent airbrush and get a proper compressor or build your own using the compressor from an old refigerator.

My 2cents - but good advice IMO

to what klutz said.
If you really are willing to take the dive and get an ab first, then still get a good one. Even if you decide that this hobby is not for you in 6 months you should still be able to sell if for a good price via e-bay or whatever.

Re: Is the HUMBROL AIR GUN + POWERPACK KIT ANY GOOD?

that "air brush" sprays worse, in most cases, than rattle cans. I used one for the first few years of my model building...uhh...career? served it's purpose well, but I was incredibly put off by the cost of the cans, so I bought a "spare tire adapter" what a joke, I spent more money in gas going to the gas station to get air than I did buying cans of propellant. so I got a little compressor from a pawn shop for like $20 (20 years ago), used it for about 5 years, when it finally let out it's last puff, I got a brand new craftsman oilless 12 gallon compressor, have been using it ever since.

you can get a good airbrush from harbor freight, or steve's wholesale for around $50. I bet you could get a really nice used one on ebay for that much. go to a pawn shop, pick up a cheap little pancake compressor for $50, put a moisture trap and air regulator if it doesn't already have them, and you'll be set for under $150.

here's a better airbrush and I'm sure it's alot cheaper. this is a single action, external mix, siphon feed, adjustable spray pattern that will do a MUCH better job than the "blow across the top of a straw" air brush you showed.
harbor freight for $5 go to their search by keyword box and type in airbrush, and it will bring up several items including compressors, and other airbrushes.

The AB that rsxse240showed is mainly for larger work. You should be looking for something that is a little more 'detailed'.
I use 3 0.3 nozzle gravity feed AB's, 2 of them are Tamiya's (which are made by Iwata).
If you're looking for cheap (but good) start out ab'es.. here are a few brands to go for:
Badger
Paasche
Iwata (One of the main leading brands but pricey)
Tamiya

Here is a website that has a lot of AB's and good info. Click ME!!
