Yes, different indeed. In an M3, you take to the track on Saturday and race. In the S4, you take the family to Grandma's house very fast on Tuesday.

These cars are like black and white.

Engine:
S4: 4.2L V8
M3: 3.2L I6

Drive Type:
S4: Quattro All Wheel
M3: Rear Wheel

Body Type:
S4: sedan
M3: coupe

Yet, oddly, they have a large grey area:

Price:
S4: $45,850
M3: $47,300

Power:
S4: 340hp @ 7000rpm
M3: 333hp @ 7,900rpm

Fuel Economy(city):
S4: 15mpg
M3: 16mpg

As you can see, these cars are similar, but different.

Re: RS4 coming to US?

just to answer the original question...yes, the rs 4 is coming to the US, spring of 2006 according to car and driver. in their preview in july issue, they estimated around $55,000, but in the issue that i just got 2 days ago, they were estimating more like $80,000
and to go back to the earlier argument, the rs 4 is a naturally aspirated, 4.2L V8, and the rs 6 is twin-turboed, not supercharged check it out on caranddriver.com for proof

Let me ask ya'll a question, Audi is making the RS4 a non turbo 4.2 v8 that's going to produce over 410 hp. and the same engine is in the a8/a6 that's makes 335hp, and it's also the same engine that was in the old ones that made 300-310hp. plus it's the same engine that's in the RS6 Twin turbo that puts out 450hp. So my question what parts are they adding to rs4's engine? and how much would it coast to do the same mods to a a6, to produce over 400hp without the use of turbos.

I love audi with a passion but it seems there doing the same thing nissan is doing, with the 3.5L v.6 engines. it's the only size v6 they use, but in the hp seems to be either higher or lower in most their cars.

Re: RS4 coming to US?

has to do with tuning. not exactly sure what they do but perhaps freer flowing intake and exhaust, more aggressiving timing, higher compression, etc. i would say all car makes do this to a certain extent where they use the same powerplant for several applications. nothing wrong with that.

What are some of the exact differences (besides price) between the European RS 4 and the S4. They both have the 4.2L engine with a manual transmission and AWD.

A nice breakdown like porscheguy9999 did between the M3 and S4 would be awesome.

Thanks.

the new fsi technoligy will be put into the rs4 and higher rated intreanals will be put in which makes this one of the most lighest and high reving v8's
