Okay guys, some help here since I am mostly a Ford man and this is my wife's daily driver. The car runs great around town and most of the time until you've run it for about 30 minutes or more and then it likes to die when you shift D to R or back and when you stop at lights. It's not bucking and stalling coming to the light like it's the TCC solenoid. I've changed the fuel filter twice in the last 100 miles. The computer has no codes (it just flashes 12 that it's operating properly). The fuel pressure shows 42 psi (specs say 41-47) with ignition in on position car not running. Drops to 38 when running like it's supposed to. Engine was rebuilt on this car 5000 miles ago and previous owner (trusted friend-so no BS from her) had no problems but the car sat almost 2 years before we bought it. Yesterday, I checked the fuel pressure (it just seems the most obvious culprit to me) and when it was running, the guage needle was bouncing between 35 and 42 psi like it was having a seizure. I replaced the fuel filter again and the pressure was rock steady around 38 psi running. The pressure goes up to 43-45 when I disconnect the regulator, just like it's supposed to. I took it for a test drive after this and it ran the best it ever has, but today, when my wife had to go to another town, it started acting up again after she got off the freeway. I've had a couple of cars before that sat for a long time and got rust and other crud in the tank and just clogged the filters almost as fast as you could change them, but I don't want to pull the tank to clean it if it's something easier. By the way, where is the TCC solenoid so that I can unplug it to be sure that's not it?

I would first check the injectors, if there was crud in there, some of it might have gotten past the filter. But then again that makes no sense since it only happens after a long drive. I don't know. But good luck.:smoka:

Im no mechanic either, but I would be suspicious of the fuel pump or fuel pump relay..
I will do a little research, and see if I can help.

It's still acting up, but less severely, which makes me think it is in fact junk in the tank from sitting all that time. Probably some surface rust from the inside of the tank exposed to air all that time. I figure I am going to go ahead and pull the tank to clean it and just replace the fuel pump as preventitive maintenance while I'm at it. Any tips or hints for pulling the tank on these models? If it matters, it's a convertible.
