Re: WIP: Tamiya 1/20 Jordan 191

Hi Guys,

If you have the Studio 27 decals for this model, can you check them for me. I dont think that they have included all the white pinstripe decals necessary. The decals fit the monocoque and the cowling from the air intake to the front of the rear wheels. However, there are no decals to complete the last two sections where the rear suspension cuts into the cowling.

I'm curious to know whever I have 'lost' them during an earlier decalling session or if they were omitted? I have some of the original pinstripes that I can use so it isn't a big drama... however they are thicker and are a different colour

Cheers,
BillyPee

Re: WIP: Tamiya 1/20 Jordan 191

Hello everyone,

I've now got the monocoque and cowling decals applied (well most of them) and have applied the green leading edge decal to the front wing. Unfortunately the decal is not thick enough in my opinion, as it should cover some of the nose cone too. I was hoping it would as it would cover the chip on the nose cone Oh, well. I'm quite happy with how it went on, as for the first half hour of apply MicroSol it was acting like a pig.

The rest of the decals went on without too much trouble really. The ISMOBAN sticker was easy to split as the split is between characters (between the A and N on the left side and the other side is split between the S and the M). The 7up decal is a little off but is no big deal. I used the reference photos to decide where to cut the decal... but the angle of the cowling on the model doesn't seem to be quite the same.

As I said in the previous update, there don't appear to be enough white pinstripe decals in the Studio 27 sheet (unless I have discarded them in error ).

The photos look pretty good. I cant wait to clear over the decals and get a shine on.

All the best,
BillyPee

Re: WIP: Tamiya 1/20 Jordan 191

Hi guys,

I haven't applied the extinguisher decal to the cowling yet. I'm pretty sure it is the extinguisher decal but please correct me if I am wrong. It is a white circle with a red circumference and a red capital E in the middle.

Can anyone confirm the location of this decal for the Spa GP. I think it is on the right hand side (as per the instructions) but there are reference pics of it on top of the cowling from Japan and (I think Australia) in the Formula Perfect manual. Does anyone have a reference pic of the right side of the car to confirm for definite... I'm only working on the assumption that I would be able to see at least a little of it on the left hand side shots if it were mounted centrally.

Thanks in advance guys,
Bill

Go to http://www.schlegelmilch.com/archive/index.php and do a picture search for Belgium 1991. There comes up a blurred photo of the right hand side among others. I would say that th "E" sticker sits high on the airbox and not centrally.

Btw.......afaik the "E" is not for extinguisher ( that should be automatic or driver controlled ) but a kill switch for the engine.

Keep it up. The model looks good!

P.S.....here's another one http://www.japancars.kiev.ua/gallery/f1/g7/6.jpg

Re: WIP: Tamiya 1/20 Jordan 191

Hi.

The picture jaykay pointed out should be more than enough evidence of the whereabouts of the big red E .
But in case you're in need of some additional evidence, you can also take a look on http://www.suttonimages.com

When you search for "belgium AND 1991" (don't forget to mark the 'entire archive' bullit), you'll find some great pictures of the 191 (shame 'bout the watermark...)

BTW: Love your build. Looks fab !

Re: WIP: Tamiya 1/20 Jordan 191

Thanks JayKay and DerXL for those links. They are great and really do help me pin down the location of the E decal. However, they have raised another question about the lack of a Tic Tac decal on the right hand side cowling!?!. It is on the left but not on the right in any of the pictures.

I can't believe it was only on a single side, but then again, it is on the 'visible' side to the TV and spectators. A more logical answer is that they had the Tic Tac decal on both sides but only for the race OR quali and that's why... Did anyone else know about this?

Thanks,
BillyPee

Re: WIP: Tamiya 1/20 Jordan 191

I'm now thinking that perhaps Michael jumped in the T car and the T car didn't have the Tic Tac decal on either side?

Re: WIP: Tamiya 1/20 Jordan 191

I don't think it's a T-car thing.
As far as i remember the deal with Tic-Tac was done very late ( just like the Schumacher drive was ). It guess that the car didn't have the stickers during qualifying but in the race.
Remember.....he hardly did any driving in that race:-)

That does make sense. The youtube clip shows the decal when Michael is in the garage but all the footage is without the tictac decal. It is clear from the Sutton images that Michael took to the grid with a car with tictac decal. I have a mouse mat of Michael going through Eau Rouge which shows the TicTac decal, though... which must be from the installation lap as his clutch had given up the ghost before he got there in the race. I think the problem is solved. Many, many thanks.

I agree with that.
Hopefully I'm not too late, but I am building the same kit soon so I looked for some reference:

Thats what I found, don't know, who made this pic, it is NOT MINE! Credit goes to the photographer

Re: WIP: Tamiya 1/20 Jordan 191

Thanks for that photo, ferrari2k. I have noticed another decal change... this time the small decal on the blue area near the rear wheel. In your reference it is a word of some description, whereas the photos which show TicTac have a square logo of some sort in that area. I've also noticed the presence of wires holding the rear wing in place... something which is not seen on the early Grand Prix of 1991.

Kind regards,
BillyPee

Re: WIP: Tamiya 1/20 Jordan 191

Hi Folks,

There is a 4 minute video of the Jordan 191 in action throughout the season on YouTube. Apart from the dodgy music, it is really quite good. Eddie Jordan has a definite Jonathon King look about him
