Question 92 Voyager 3.0 Cranks but not start.

Hi,

I have a 1992 Plymouth Voyager, 3.0 engine, 3 speed that will not start. Initially engine went dead while waiting at a drive-thru, idling in drive. It turns over fine, but does not catch on. Things that I have checked:

1. Spark out of Ignition – there.
2. Distributor rotor move when engine is cranked.
3. Spark plugs looked dry.
4. Checked fuel pump output rather coarsely, disconnected fuel supply hose from injector assembly and into a can. Cranked engine and notice fuel shooting out.

Well I have air, fuel and spark. Why wont it start??

Not really familiar with all the relays and sensors that could contribute to problem. Please if you have any ideas as to what it could be, email me as soon as you can. I really need to get this going.

Thanks ahead of time.

turn the ignition key on and off quickly 4 times, the 4th time leaving it on,and see if you are getting any trouble codes through the check engine light,if not...check for a clogged cat converter

Re: 92 Voyager 3.0 Cranks but not start.

I fixed a plymouth car with a 3.0 engine. This engine is a mitz 6G72. I work for a Cat/Mitz lift truck dealer and we have the same engine in some of our larger lift trucks. Anyway the car would turn over and would not start. I checked spark, air, and Fuel. I had fuel coming out when cranking. I pulled the fuel pump out of the tank, and it had been replaced a few months later, but it was not put in correctly and it was full of junk. I put a new fuel pump in the tank, correctly this time, and it started first time. Even though you are getting fuel, it may not be enough. The fuel pump would be a place to start.

Funny thing...

Let me tell you a story.

Yesterday, I just pulled into the wendy's drive thru and the engine on my 92 plymouth voyager stalled. Hmmm strange, never did that before.

Well I tried to crank her... No go, had to push her out of the drive thru lane.

Ok what's wrong. She's cranking, I hear the fuel pump coming on. The cranking sounds kinda funny. I get my flashlight take off the oil filler cap, shine my flash light in and press the button on my auto start...

Sure enough... she's cranking but the valves are doing nothing

Broken Timimg Belt !

Well today after getting a recker to pick her up, I got the whole front of the engine stripped off and is in the process of replacing the timing belt. Im actually stuck at the fly wheel bolt, I can't get it off (anyone care to help me!), I can't find anyway to jam the flywheel in order to get the nut off.

So hopefully your luck ain't as bad as mine.

Wayne

Freddyrod,
throttle position sensor...? try flooring it, if it starts then, may be your trouble.

woscarr,
use an impact, or use the inspection hole in the trans and jam the torque converter, but don't expect it to be easy that way, and watch out for the converter. The impact wrench is best. You can also lock the conveter by removing the inspection plate on the trans, or wrap a belt around the harmonic balancer and twist it tight and it might be enough to hold, then again it might not!

Re: 92 Voyager 3.0 Cranks but not start.

Just to add... I got the crank bolt off... thanks.

The distributor dosen't run off the timing belt in the 3.0 Mistibishi motors. It's gear driven off the crank.

So you can't tell if the timing belt is broken by checking the distributor.
