yea, higher impedance = lower power draw (watts) from the wall, the same as if you wired them too your amp that way - they would draw less power.
110^2/12 = 1008 watts if you wired 3 4ohm subs in series, each sub would see about 330 watts RMS @ 60 Hz. It would also be a little kinder on your circuit breaker, probably pull no more than 10 amps.
