i read that he used a mirror, i may be wrong, i'm not saying you are. it was done so no one could read what he'd written. (unless they had..................a mirror)

EDIT - sorry, you were right. wikipedia says he wrote it as a mirror-image, without using a mirror.

Why not? I'm not sure how many babies are born daily but its alot. (Thanks in advance to whoever had the energy to look this stat up... I'm a lazy bastid ) Plus newborns aren't all that distinguishable from one another. They're mostly bald, pink (or light brown, but I was pretty pale when I was born), cuddly bundles of joy. Add to that the endless hours worked by nurses and interns causing absent-mindedness and you could easily get 12 mixups every day.
