What are signs that your transmission is starting to slip? What causes a Transmission to slip? How much does it cost to get it fixed? Thanks for the Help.

Re: Transmission Slippage
Is your transmission manual or automatic?

Re: Transmission Slippage
If you have a big metal box somewhere under the hood connected to the engine, your transmission slips.

Re: Transmission Slippage
Well, an easy way to check if your tranny is busted, will it EASILY shift into reverse when you are at a stop?
2. while driving down the road, down shift and release the clutch. If all goes well, it's ok.

Re: Transmission Slippage
Why are you questioning it? Do you have a particular concern?
When the transmission slips, it can be from many causes, but they all come back to one thing, low pressure to the clutch or band that is slipping. This could even be just from the clutch pack or band being worn out. Low fluid level has caused many transmissions to slip, and even ruined quite a few! A typical overhaul for that transmission should run around $1400-1600 unless there is something badly broken. |

Re: Re: Transmission Slippage
well, when I first start out, I am not sure if its just because its cold, but the car shifts real hard, and when its downshifting (after warming up) the car shudders a bit sometimes when the car drops into first and the rpm's drop really low, to about 600 or so from 2nd to 1st.

Re: Transmission Slippage
the ford AODE is pretty pathetic really.
most mustang guys have to replace them with sturdier models when doing any serious modifications. Usually for the cost of a good rebuild, you can just buy a new one, which is nice. from what your describing, it could be the TPS, which is the throttle position sensor. I had a similar problem on an oldsmobile I used to own, the transmission would think I had the gas planted when I didn't, etc. check that and then check the fluid also.

This thread is 3 years old, try starting new one, with a much clearer, better defined question, including more details about the car and transmission in question.
