I had wondered the same thing. I asked my pastor because i too am a smoker. He said that smoking and drinking are not sins. It is the being addicted part that is.

You're forgetting about second hand smoke. Now you're harming/killing someone else. Certainly a just god will punish you for that!

Thats what a pastor said??? I'm not christian but I know that it is totally agains the bible to harm one's self, and that is what smoking does.........................

EVERYONE SINS!!!

asking for forgiveness is the way to Heaven. Asking forgiveness through Jesus Christ, God's one and only Son is the way. Smoking is no different then a common lie, curse, harshness to someone, or anything else.

Everyday we sin and the day of your death you'll sin somehow but will you go to Heaven 'cause you are saved? Yes, 'cause he forgives. No, this ain't the "catholic" way as some put it to where you can sin, say three hail marys and life is peachy. The Catholic way isn't that way either, but still...

sorry, i get aggravated lately by people no trying to understand an patience has been low lately. But yeah, smoke and go to hell? no, you won't. simple.

if you believe that suicide gets you into hell, then yes, so does smoking. some of these arguments are like saying "no, i shot myself, but i didn't kill myself, the bullet killed me"
If you counter with "yeah but you made the decision to pick up the gun and pull the trigger" well... you made the decision to pick up the cigarette and light it.

i used to smoke, and i used to be religious.
ridding myself of both has been cleansing.

I agree with 00Accord04. It is just like eating terrible foods your whole life. Is that a sin? I would not think so...maybe a bad habit but I would not think it is a sin. But if you are a Christan then you probably believe that the only thing that determines whether or not you go to Heaven or Hell is God himself.

Thats irrelevant. You're eating to survive whether its junk or not. Smoking doesn't do you any good let alone help you survive. In my beliefs, any harm you do to your body is a sin. Not a major sin but its a sin. Smoking/drinking/drugs/mutilation/tatoos etc...

a sin is a sin technically, except to catholics and muslims. then there are levels and depending on what type of catholic you are.
