smoke and go to hell?
first off im not religious at all and i smoke so lets go from there;
if your a christian (or anyone i suppose) who smokes and you die from anything smoking related, would you not go to hell for commiting suicide? just something that popped into my head the other day, because everyone obviously knows smoking kills you but i know plenty of religious people who smoke and im like hmmmm... just a curious thought ive been kicking around figured id get some of yalls opinions.

Re: smoke and go to hell?
Well really there is alot of technicalities when it comes to that because it could be like "Well I smoked but I didnt want to die or didnt think I was going to die.. it was the smoke that caused my heart to fail and that inturn killed me" thats what I think anyway, but im sure once you're up there, if you do go up there, they'll decide your fate.

Re: smoke and go to hell?
Good question, i really dont know. But i do know if you're catholic (like me) and you commit suicide, you go to hell. I guess smoking could be concidered a prolonged suicide,....but i dunno.

Re: smoke and go to hell?
but you are choosing to smoke NOT because you want it to to kill (unless you are really fucked up) you are choosing it as a device of pleasure. I think, if it were a proven fact that you were going to hell for committing suicide, it would ultimately depend on whether you chose to smoke because you liked the effects it gave you or because you wanted to die.
Now, lets say for discussion sake, that it was determined that if you smoke you are going to hell. Then you get shot or something and you die. Do you still go to hell even though it wasn't the smoking that killed you? |

I think God gives everyone a fair chance to get into heaven, smoker or not.

Re: smoke and go to hell?
see but does it matter if you do it to kill yourself or not, your still killing yourself and you know you are??
but as to what highteknology said, id say no, thats why i said in the original post, if you die from smoking related problems only, cuz some people smoke their whole lives and then die from getting hit by a car or what have you. like i said i duno either, i dont even know what made me think of this but its a hard question i think

Re: smoke and go to hell?
My thinking would be no. If that were the case, then couldn't you argue that (obviously) drinking alcohol would make you go to hell? And if so, what about eating unhealthy foods in general? If you eat a twinkie and die of a heart attack, you go to hell? I don't think so

as for the whole topic. i would lean towards the said that said "No". Just because you are not smoking because you want to kill yourself or at least i hope you aren't because you would have a LONG time to still live. Maybe people do smoke so they can kill themselves. I don't smoke so I don't know but my guess is that they do not smoke because they want to kill themselves. |

Re: smoke and go to hell?
Even in the case of suicide with some religions the belief is that you don't always go to hell. Some believe it an honor or privelage to sacrifice themselves. Now these are very outlying religions, and those of long times past. However, if you truly believe in Christ then would suicide actually send you to hell? I am a christian and believe that God had a plan all mapped out for our lives long before we were brought into this world. So now with that in mind, even though we essentially make all our day to day decisions, in the end wouldn't it still be God's decision suicide or not? Just a little food for thought.

edit: keeping on track with the smoking idea - if all the above is true, then it was in God's map for you to start smoking, which, if it does mean you are going to hell, then aren't you predetermined for hell even before you are born? |

Re: smoke and go to hell?
I never been very religous, i've read parts of the bible but i was never forced to go to church when i was young. So christianity has never been a big part of my life. But what about the whole " your body is the temple of christ" thing? So from what i understand from that is smoking would be considered desicrating the temple of christ, right? so in some sense wouldn't you go to hell for that? like i said i'm not to religous and maybe i'm not understanding the "temple of christ" thing.

Re: smoke and go to hell?
Smoke and go to Hell? Isn't it the other way around?
![]() Seriously, I would be more worried about what we know smoking does to our bodies here in this life, than be concerned with any speculation of what might happen to me for smoking after I'm dead! For all we know god smokes. If i remember correctly he even told Adam and Eve they could smoke anything they wanted in the garden except for that one plant and... well you know the rest.

Re: smoke and go to hell?
I would say no, it would be the same thing as driving and getting killed in an accident. you know there are risks when you're driving a car, when you smoke you aren't garunteed to die from it. i know some smokers who died at the age of 90 something who had been smoking since the age of 12, and they died from nothing smoking related. so if you drive a car and "kill yourself" by getting hit do you go to hell? no.
and as for that whole "if god mapped out our lives" stuff. well it's that he's got a plan and you choose wether or not to follow it.

Re: smoke and go to hell?
Quote:
Well smoking is a bad habit that is hard on the old body. But it is not really a issue on getting into Heaven But so is a lot of other things. Read the ten Commandments I am a Christian. I have accepted God into my heart and asked him to forgive my sins. That is the step you have to take to get into heaven. Sins really has nothing to do with it. Get a Bible and read it or talk some Christians. You have to accept god into your heart and ask him to forgive your sins to get to heaven. Jesses said only threw him can a person get to heaven. Jesses dyed on the cross to be able to wash your sins away. God will forgive your sins all you need to do is accept him and believe in him. MT

Re: smoke and go to hell?
I'm gonna say no. As a Christian you're also forgiven for your sins. I don't consider smoking a sin.
