Ok well, a mazda made in japan would be significantly more reliable than a mazda made in the us or europe. Im pretty sure I said that, its a great example of this point.

So a mazda protege was made in japan. A mazda 626 was assembled in the us with some japanese parts. Ok hit consumer reports used car data on these models. Honda civic assembled in canada. Honda civic si assembled in japan. It is a direct and logical difference you can look up. Consumer reports data - made in japan - more reliable.

The closest brand that would buck this trend is toyota, its us plants seem to make vehicles close to as reliable as their japanese plants. Not as, but close. Ok camry made in the us, prius made in japan. Camry much less reliable but still excellent... corrolla is the highest rated vehicle assembled in the us, its almost as reliable as the toyota echo. but not quite.

You have noticed that toyota has 2 new brands, they are lexus and scion. Now concentrate, what is different about lexus, scion and toyota? Hmm.... bingo. All scions and all but one lexus are made in japan. Most toyotas are now made in North america. Now why is that? They dont seem to advertise it. Its because the right consumer just knows the difference.

Ok now a ford escort gt uses a mazda engine. Still not reliable. Its not the engine that will cause you problems.

You want a vehicle made in japan if you know anything about it. why do kids pimp the del sol out, but not the civic sedan with a bigger engine? Because they think its going to go the distance. And its assembled in japan.
You are speaking in very general terms. To say a car is reliable is a very general statement. I have a 1987 Ford ranger with well over 200000 miles back home and the only things that have been replaced are the clutch (at about 170000) and one of the cats. It was built in america, and I couldn't think of another word for it other than reliable. I have had friends with honda's that have been in the shop for years, some currently off the road. Those are unreliable cars. Do I say that all Honda's are unreliable? NO, nor do I say that all rangers are. You can't say that a whole make of vehical is reliable because 9 times out of 10 its the consumer that determines the reliability. You are also implying alot of other things that make absolutely no sense. Everyone is entitled to their opinions but that dosn't make them facts.

um Im going to take this at face value and respond to it ok.

Each car is an individual isnt it? With a different owner. Larrys yugo is probably going to live longer than saras corrola because sara is a dimwit.

No one said all cars are reliable. Consumer data would be general. Yes.

Ok dont do it, dont say "well educating myself on consumer data isnt going to help me in life because each car is a different story." Dont cop out, thats what you're going to face in life: " Oh its just so complicated so why know" lol or whatever people like that need to tell themselves.

Here's some consumer data to hook into: as impressive as your ranger is, how many toyota trucks were sold in 87? What percentage of those toyota trucks and rangers are still on the road? Assuming millions sold, lets assume their owners as a whole pretty much maintained them the same. Well the toyota truck was way better built lol. Way more of them are still rolling. Way more of those rangers are in the junkyard. Most of them didnt get past about 125k as a matter of fact. And the ranger is a decent american made truck mind you.

Knowing the toyota truck is a lot better built on the average isnt going to tell you which truck is better if you go on the used market. Youre still going to have to look at the vehicle and perhaps get to know the previous owner some. But its definitely going to help you when you realize youve got a much better shot with a toyota truck. And the thing is, everyone knows this. Its pretty common knowledge cars are built better in japan whoever tries to pretend otherwise has their head up their... I mean has their head in the sand.

In an area of the country where rust beats out transmission failure as far as killing cars, long term reliability isnt as important in the question. I live in california, in say chicago no ones toyota truck reaches 1 million miles because its long since rusted out. So, in that area hey ranger and nissan hard body are almost the same thing.... just more data Im adding to consider.

I have a way better toyota truck story. I used to work for the newspaper and one of the drivers had over 1.3 million miles on his 1980 toyota truck. Basically it ran back and forth around town 8 hours a day for 15 years. Head rebuilt 3 times but still the same engine block.
He got a story written about him in some toyota magazine and toyota painted his truck for free. Theres a whole bunch of them that made 1 million, those first gen 20 r toyota trucks which are like 78 79 80 81.
Are there any stories like this about ford rangers?

This is just a quick search the first thing that came up on google when I typed in "Ford ranger 1000000 miles" I am sure they are others but I don't think anything is changing your OPINION.

Re: 25k to spend

If you are more concerned about speed get an Evo or STi for looks get a Solstice (Sweet) if you want the best of both get a mid 90s Supra. 0-60 in 4.7 seconds and it will turn heads for many many years to come
