Apple lays claim to the word "pod"

http://www.ft.com/cms/s/859887f2-2be...0779e2340.html
Apple lays claim to the use of the word 'Pod'. What does everybody think about this? Should they be allowed exclusive use or is the is the word part of "public property" because it's use pre-dates Apple's use of it. I think it's part of the public domain and not one company or corporation be allowed to claim it solely for their use.

Seriously.

I almost think this is some sort of stupid publicity stunt on Apples part.

Ridiculous. I don't see how products with the word POD would be infringing on the copyright of "iPOD". Especially if their products were on the market before the ipod was.

Re: Apple lays claim to the word "pod"

Can you imagine if Apple is successful, (I hope they aren't in this matter,)the precedent this could set? I can see it now, Bill Gates tries to claim the word "Windows" Apple tries to trademark the word "apple", Blackberry, and the list goes on and on. Don't get me started with the car manufacturers and the field day they would have with trademarking vehicle names .

You know, I think I'll claim the word "conflabate." That sound good to you all?

Seriously, that's just a stupid idea.

Screw 'em. Points made above. I can see getting a trademark for "iPOD", but I think Invasion of the Body Snatchers has dibs on the word "pod".

Or maybe the military does, since they've used weapon pods since WWII
