Fan motor not working
I have a 92 SL2. Fan motor is not coming on. Have replaced sensor, still not working. It doesn't come on even when I turn on the AC. Have jumped it directly to battery, and fan runs. Fan blade is very hard to tur, but does turn when 12V DC is put to it. Any ideas on what to check next?

Hi Jeff. I had the same problem. I had to replace the fan motor myself.

Did your fan motor run when you jumped it directly from the battery? Mine will, just not when it is supposed to run from the sensor. Let me know. I can replace the fan motor for $43.00. I am just about to send it into the shop, which kills me. I'll wait to hear from you. If yours ran and turned hard, I'll give the motor replacement a shot.---Jeff

Jeff,
I am having the same problem...when i am stuck in traffic the temp goes sky high..i read that if you turn on the ac it should take care of the problem...well i noticed the fan does not turn on when the ac is started..i assume i need to replace the cooling fan motor...i am trying to keep costs down as i am getting rid of the car soon. any idea if it could be something else??? |

I am told the same thing about turning on the a/c. I don't get mine to come on either----but like I said it will run if I pull it out and jump it directly to the battery. Blades turn very stiffly, but seem to run ok with direct jump. I will replace it in two weeks---luckily don't have to drive car but a few miles--so it doesn't get a chance to heat up. Fan assembly is not that hard to remove, then you have to r/r the motor itself. |

Well i bought a new motor for 25.00 and replaced it. works like a charm. the only thing of note for those of you planning to install it yourself is not to tighten the bolt onto the fan too tight or it will freeze up. That may be the problem with your blade not turning very well. |

Re: Fan motor not working
I finally gave in and pulled out the old fan motor. The shaft would barely turn and was really grinding. Headed the warnings about not overtightening the LH nut for fan blade. End of problem. Fan kicks on at 3/4 on temp guage and cools her down very quickly!!!
