Re: cold air intake design

Performance wise, you honestly should keep the travel distance short and with as few curves as possible. But if ya want to do something different, I admire your enthusiasim.

Re: cold air intake design

If your going to mount it behind the bumper like your going to, I hope you plan on not driving your car in the rain anymore. Even with incorperating an AEM bypass valve into your system, that can only handle so much water. I have a friend with a 02 tiburon with an AEM CAI, he went through what he thought was just a puddle after a rain storm, ended up being a 1 foot deep puddle... the filter was down in his fender and sucked in direct water and killed his engine even with the bypass installed. He got the car started again, but killed his starter. Its a great idea and has lots of potential if you can pull it off, I'm just trying to give you a heads up about the neg. aspects about having the filter portion of the intake that low to the ground.

In reality the more you mod a car, the more of a pain in the ass they are to drive in every day conditions. I have to use boards to get in and out of my driveway since my car is kitted, lowered and there is only about1 3/4" of rubber between my rim and the pavement. I have to be very careful when driving watching for pot holes, etc. You have to sacrifice some things in order to gain others.. But good luck with your project man, keep us updated.

Re: cold air intake design

yea my friend has his cai and he could drive cause he didnt have a bypass filter installed. i think if i keep the filters above the black plastic guard stuff ill be alright in rain and ill just have to make sure i avoid puddles.
