Re: 2000 Taurus Brake Issue

Unlike the traction control light, the ABS light does not illuminate when the ABS is active (at least I've never seen it).

If you are getting a red brake light coming on, then the problem causing that light to come on is something other than a problem with the ABS.

Re: 2000 Taurus Brake Issue

If it is the RED brake light, it is either low on fluid, bad e-brake switch or a bad fluid level sensor.

Re: 2000 Taurus Brake Issue

Actually, on most fords, the abs module can control the red brake light. If you get a brake on signal from the pedal mounted switches and no pressure indicated by the brake pressure sensor (like the one that burns Expeditions), then the system assumes a total hydraulic system failure and turns on the amber abs light and the red brake light. This is just some useless information because a lot of times when you get a total hydraulic system failure, the lights never do come on, but in theory they work that way. I doubt this is the problem, though since you haven't listed losing all brakes and wrecking as a symptom. Also...what are we looking for behind the dash?
