Zidane the Destroyer!

What a final...not sure if I'm entirely happy with Italy winning (bunch of drama queens vs Aussie and Germany, IMO), but wtf @ France. Pull Henry off near the end, then Zidane loses his mind and headbutts Materazzi. Trezeguet would be feeling pretty gutted as well I'd imagine.

Still, not a bad final to get up for at 6am

Re: Zidane the Destroyer!

Zidane is an asshole. So is Henry. I don't really like Italy alot either, but I like them much better than France. I'm glad about what happened to Zidane after that stunt he pulled.

Re: Zidane the Destroyer!

Yeah he definately deserved it. I would love to know what was said to him to set him off like that.

I just got pissed off with Italy watching them play Germany...every tackle they drop to the floor and writhe around expecting a penalty. Someone called them an "amateur theatrical company calling themselves a soccer team". Rang pretty true, although they seemed to behave themselves at the final.

Re: Zidane the Destroyer!

Zidane had the better part of 5 minutes left in his football career, he could have gone out on a massive high, instead he headbutted Materazzi more or less completely unprovoked and sends himself out on a crashing low.

Still, we won it! I'm just waiting for the Ockers to start piping up with "EEEET SHORDA BIN US MAYTE. BLOODY WORGS!" Eh, put it aside already, you couldn't beat us when we had 10 men, suck it up and move on you convict bastards.

Viva L'Italia!

From the looks of it Materazzi was pulling on his shirt. Either way, nowhere near something that warrants getting sacked like that. Something must have been said, would love to know what it was.

Jimmy - he's only retiring from international football isn't he?

Anyways, bring on SA 2010. Bafana bafana!

I hate it when people make GIF files so fast like that that you can't even see anything. I wish it was in slowmow and had a little bit of the aftermath at least so we could see what was going on

Re: Zidane the Destroyer!

Well: here we're. After 24 year we won, people here're crazy: Milan, Rome, Napoli: a big fiesta all the night.

Thanks a lot azzurri.

I think we have a great group, a good mister and a bit of lucky, this time

I'm not in agree with FIFA with the best player to Zinedine: I also don't think he's an asshole: he just lost the head for few seconds and for sure Materazzi said he something cool to have a kind of reaction.

Well: we're waiting for our guys, this night... another big fiesta

He pulled on his shirt and told him, "I want you, I want you now" Then Zidane turned around and said, "Are you crazy, not in public" and then head bunted him. The rest is history.

Seriously, wtf. There was no reason for that and it cost him the chance to get a goal for his team. But I am glad that Italy won since they haven't won for quite some time now.

Well, now I'll be in a slump/world cup withdrawal until another 4 years till the next Cup.

ole ole ole ole.

Re: Zidane the Destroyer!

A little late but I'll add my .02

I personally didn't like either of the teams in this final. I wish teh 3rd/4th place game had been the final, but anyway. After playing for the better part of my life, I can honestly say there have been times when I've been pissed off enough to do stuff like that. Plenty gets said that no cameras/microphones will catch, add that to some bad fouls/calls/frustration, whatever, and you can throw some cheap shots...I know I've done it, and I'm sure most players have at some point or another.

What I really found amusing was A) the announcer saying something about how Zidane was a world-class player and he couldn't believe he just saw such a cheap shot from such a great player blah blah blah...and I just started laughing, it was obvious the announcer had never watched him play on Juventus.
B) I did think it was a poor move on FIFA's part to come down harsh on Rooney's retailiation, but then give Zidane the Golden ball. Kinda hypocritical.

Anyway, what really pissed me off, was that after missing the Germany v. Italy game due to a wedding, I had to miss the final game due to a family thing with my gf's family. So I had the game recording upstairs, I saw the penalty shot. Then I go outside. A half hour later some guy arrives and starts talking about the game, I immediately interrupt and say 'don't tell me, I have it recording!'.

He replies "Well all I can tell you, is that it's tied up"....Thanks dick!

Hour later some idiots in Italia shirts (who I've already told I'm taping the game) are listening to it on a car radio, and scream out "WE WON in PKs!"

Idiot #1 turns to me and says, "well at least you don't know who they were voting for".....yeah, the Italy shirts really kept me guessing...dick!

So that really sucked the joy outta watching that game later that night. Bastards.
