diecast chassis sounds bad but let's wait how they do it with this kit maybe they learned and surpise us with a great chassis (please Tamiya...)

The idea is good... but more realistically is to start a joint petition... on the diecast chassis-es to just stand a point of view as modelers, I m pretty sure if you do it, in english, spread over a couple of modelforums, and maybe even other language-speaking forums... like french, german, etc... you could actually achieve something.

Just my two cents. and maybe the mods should look into it, giving to AF the credit it deserves also!

Re: 1/24 Tamiya McLaren SLR

It's disspiriting to see the diecast chassis. It does imply a certain emphasis from Tamiya- that diecast semiassembled or fully assembled kits are more profitable than straight plastic. Perhaps it's not surprising, but disappointing none the less. Sure, it will be a lovely kit, but it is a bit overshadowed by the chassis.

On the other hand, they do seem to be making a good go of it in rereleasing older kits. Yes, this can be dismissed in a purely profitmaking light- but I'm glad to see the availibility of these older kits. Tamiya's golden age of 1/24 kits was 10-15 years ago, at a time that I was not heavily building. I'm happy to see that this era will not have entirely bypassed me, and I do at least appreciate this effort for 1/24 car modelers....

Well you pay your money you've got to get something, in this case it is a chance to bitch! Most of us would be happier with an accurate underside, but the Tamiya beancounters know better.

I eventually relented and bought a 307 WRC, despite the diecast chassis. Gonna weather it up and place it in a diorama cause that's all it's good for. As much as I like the SLR I'm still undecided if Tamiya will get my money this time around. A Fujimi Enthusiast reissue sounds like a better investment, more like my idea of what an injection moulded kit could be.

I agree, but sadly I just love the SLR too much to say "I won't buy due to diecast chassis". So, I'm one of them thats just put a pre-order in. for two of them actually, at 5% discount from hlj.com.

Its better then no SLR at all, and the chassis is mostly flat on the real car anyhow. Tamiya are loosing it, but its an SLR, how can I ignore it..??

I'm going to try my hardest, not sure if I'll manage though

It's strange I guess - and I'm surely in the minority - but there's something about this car that just falls short of "doing it" for me (and it's not the Tamiya diecast chassis which doesn't really bother me that much ;0).

I admire the SLR's technical values and achievements and I totally enjoyed watching Jeremy Clarkson speeding across Europe in one but at the end of the day I need to either LOVE or HATE a supercar. This one? well...

I'll for sure pick a kit up if I come across it later at cheaper, bargain prices but there are just sooooooo many other things I'd rather build to want to use up valuable stash space on this one

I wish you all the best with yours, though and look forward to following the first WIP - maybe it will change my mind....

Re: 1/24 Tamiya McLaren SLR

well what i dont get is if tamiya just wants to make the model heavier for realism, why dont they just make some of the kits parts in metal, like the engine block perhaps, or they could just supply the kit with little weights that could be placed inside the body or in other inconspicous places

Re: 1/24 Tamiya McLaren SLR

Well, the diecast chassis is unfortunate, but people will still get it. It's not like there is another SLR option out there. I'll wait like I always do with new Tamiya kits, see how this diecast chassis and other details pan out, and hopefully get it 1/2 off at HobbyLobby next year. 4200 yen is quite pricey.

Well diecast chassis or not I pre-ordered mine. I'm with Mick on this one. It is an SLR and I cannot ignore that.

I ordered 2 of them. I'm also curious how the diecast chassis looks like.

Re: 1/24 Tamiya McLaren SLR

We’ll just have to wait and see what the die cast chassis does to the model, and how it builds up. 3800yen is £17 per model. It will be twice this in the UK, so either way I’m paying a lot for a plastic kit, but I’d take the SLR over any other supercar released in the last few years…. Mercedes are models I’m collecting, and paid quite a price for as well on ebay, just to fill in some gaps.

I’m not sure what to expect, but I’d rather keep open minded with this then just say “no, it’s a diecast chassis not getting it” like I did with the 307. The 307 wasn’t a model I really wanted anyhow, but this is something I do want. Yes, I’m pissed about the chassis option, but what other choice do I have…? None, that’s what..
