The Ninja 250 and Ninja 500 look almost the same, but are simply V-Twin versions of their older brothers with the 4 bangers. If you dont get a helmet and some leathers you are a moron. It may look crazy to spend like 300 bucks on a helmet that is only good for 1 crash, but trust me, head injuries are no joke, and no matter what you say, you will probably at least lay it down once, even if you arent moving. At a minimum get a nice helmet, some gloves with kevlar inserts, and a leather jacket. Stay away from nylon, or anything that will melt when it gets hot because road rash is bad, but road rash with melted plastic or nylon stuck in it is way worse. Leather is the way to go. Joe Rocket makes nice jackets, and make sure your helmet is SNELL and DOT approved.

All cycles should be at least a 5 or 6 speed. The only auto bikes are high end ones...or skooters.

Cycle safety class is the way to go. Lots of good info, and a good general learning of how to handle a bike in many situations. I took it, and it was alot of fun. Well worth the money for the Insurance break.

Keep us informed and as said, WHERE A HELMET. I dont car how experienced people think they are, you are an idiot if you dont where one and I'm sticking to that comment. You could be the best rider in the world and a guy in a car could pull out and not see you and you are as good as dead.
