Re: Powershifting

not using the clutch is stupid, buy a SS clutch line and get a B&M short shifter. Gives better feel and quicker shifts.

Re: Powershifting

whats really funny is how people complain about automatics being gay becuase there is no clutch.......then here's a thread about using your manual without using a clutch........kind of ironic.

Re: Powershifting

lol yeah but thats not why automatics suck...if a manual had no clutch it would be a sequential F1 style shifter. mmmmmmhhmmmmmm.

Re: Powershifting

Aren't there still clutches even with the f1 style paddle shifters...just not a clutch pedal...(ex. f360 modena etc)

yeah theres just no pedal. i think i remember reading about the one in the new M5 and i want to say that i remember that each gear had its own clutch or something weird like that. maybe not. but i do remember they were saying the way the gearbox is made, it would be impossible to navigate with a standard shifter because they laid the gears out all weird style to be a lot stronger. i thought that was pretty cool.

Re: Powershifting

I think the smg is kinda like the new seq audi trannies in that the shifting is instantaneos b/c there are 2 clutches or something and while it is running on one that other gets ready so its uber fast or something (there was an scc article on it way back)

Re: Powershifting

I think it's most ironic that an automatic transmission has more clutches than a manual.

Re: Powershifting

whats the point... unless your going for 10sec quarter mile times, perfecting powershifting is useless in a street car. Synchros wear out faster and it sounds bad. From the outside, to an everyday person, it just sounds like you can't drive standard. (similar to applying throttle way before the clutch engages... im sure you've all heard it)

b&m short shifter does feel great... got a new clutch after that and its impressing. I'd recommend that. The newer updated b&m shifter removed the vibration/rattling you hear when your in gear at higher rpms... thats pretty much the only difference. If you have a loud exhaust, it really doesn't matter.
