Re: There is more to life than cars

I understand what you are saying, but think of it this way, It takes all kindds to make the world go around. Thase people are doing what is important to them. Some people strive for success, some for education. That is what makes them happy and to them that is life. If you asked them they would probably tell you that going to college for 8 yrs to get a job sitting in a cubicle 8hrs a day five doays a week is no way to enjoy life. The man that keeps the cars running is no less important than a doctor, if not for him, the emergency vehicles wouldn't keep running to take care of the sick people. So just put it in perspective. At least they have found what they love and will probably use that to make a living and contribute to society. It's not all bad to be passionate about what you love. We need all types in this world or it would be a pretty boring place.

Re: There is more to life than cars

NO WAI!

Only one Razdaspeed ever built....mie=ne of course.

Yea theres a difference between passion and obsession. I mean I knew a couple of people who were working in a call center such as myself and made 12$/hr. Lived at home with parents, were 25yrs of age, put all of money into car. Sure most of them had some nice ass cars...I always wondered what their future looked like. I tried not to be pessmistic...but hell, you can't work for 12$/hr and live with your parents forever.
I think it could become a legal obession like gambling, or those crazy parents who kill over their kid's hockey games.

Re: There is more to life than cars

it does take all kinds, but serously...think of how piss poor it is for some.

I know some speed freeks (the drug) who cant feel anything anymore, they want out and they cant. Dont bullshit me eather...they really cant, its all they got.

For some people its all they have known...and they would trade it if they knew how. (yes, even cars)

Re: There is more to life than cars

It's almost like I want to help them, but if I do, they'll think that I'm preaching to them, and that won't help anybody. I'm all for car meets and stuff, but I'm not going to hang out with them at the k-mart parking lot while some ricer civics are doing burnouts and donuts in the parking lot. In fact, I've never gone to one of their "meets" and honestly have no desire to either.

Re: There is more to life than cars

Of course there's more to life than cars. Cars are my passion, and have been since i was 4 or 5. But my family, friends, and career are all more important by far.

Re: There is more to life than cars

I'm enthusiastic about cars. But as described previously, some people go to school for 8 years and work in a cubicle (or office in my situation) for 8 hours a day like myself. And then I hop in my little CRX and drive 40 miles home so I can be with my wife. Before I became all Mr. Professional though, I used to use my vehicle to go to the most romantic places I could come up with. I was even going to write a book about some of these places. Then I realized that if I did then it wouldn't be so special anymore. Granted I don't really visit these places too much anymore so it's not as big of secret. But the point is, people change and become what they aspire to be. It's nice to be an enthusiast, but my wife divorced her ex because he spent all of his free time in the garage building a 928. I'm not going to make the same mistake. In fact, since I'm not an engineer and don't really trust myself to do certain automotive tasks it appears that my future seems okay.

The biggest killer is the time it takes to go through all the training programs. Even though you're learning all this stuff, you're still having to fend for yourself finacially wise with shitty jobs until you graduate. It'll be worth it though.
Had two friends graduate from their. One did the engine side, the other paint and body. They both really enjoyed it. One friend ended up working for his fiance's dad, so he's not even using it. My other just started working for Lexus off of 45. He had almost a 4.0 and was denied by Benz, and he said a lot of kids who missed tons of class and lower grades were accepted. One of his instructors told him it had a lot to do with the fact that he was white. Bullshit isn't it?

Re: There is more to life than cars

Yes, don't get me wrong, My wife and family come first, but what I was getting at was it does tk\ake all kinds to make the world go around, wether we like it or not. When we see people like those still living at home, that reenforces to the rest of us that we want to raide our kids to be better than them. So see, some good can come from those types, showing the rest of the world what not to be. I have absolutely no sympathy for anyone living at home past the age of 18 unless they are going to school and helping to pay there own way. Parents that allow that are not helping their kids at all. And it is even worse when they are obsessed with a hobby that takes all their money. But I would bet that those types have a bigger problem than money and obsession if they are living at home at that age. Like many out there, they were most likely spoiled, and with that in many cases, causes the kid to take alot longer to mature and become self sufficiant. I hate to see that because in time it breeds many more of the same, and what kind of a country would we have if it was full of 30 yr old adolescents?

Re: There is more to life than cars

That is exactly why the only thing I've done to the GTC thus far is the wheels and tires. I just don't have the money to do what I want and I just wonder where some people get it. I have a friend with a Mustang GT and it seems every couple of weeks he is putting something new on his car and he does go to school. I just don't see how he does it.

However, I can't say too much, I plan to spend a lot of money on the GTC this year.

Re: There is more to life than cars

I completely know what you mean and I found that out first hand. I lived at home at 18 and bought a car, dumped $12k into it over a year and that was all that I care about. Now, 2-3 years later I've moved out, no longer have that car, and am struggeling to live by myself and make all the bills. Way to plan huh

I'm goin down there with 3 other white kids so we'll see what happens......

Re: There is more to life than cars

Theres extremist in all hobbys. I don't see why spending a big amount of money on your passion is a problem. If I had kids, i'd rather have my kids spend all their money on cars and not drugs. But I mean, I know people that spend more on computers then people on this board spend on there cars.

And maybe there cars are there escape from life? I know I need an escape, if I don't have one, I get so frusterated that I could do something I will very much regret.
