There is more to life than cars

Not sure where this thread should go, but I'll post it here anyways.

There is a forum of local "car enthusiasts" for which I'd rather not give out the name. I basically only visit the forum when i have something for sale, or when I'm looking at local racing events, like auto-x.

Anyways, that board is a small board, and it's filled with a bunch of people my age, probably 16-22. They're definetely not ricers because they all own a bunch of cars that are fast. A lot of DSMs, swapped hatchies, f-bodies, mustangs, etc, and they don't really care how their cars look on the outside. It just seems to me that these are people out of high school probably working full time at circuit city, living with their parents and spending ALL of their money on their car, and street racing it on the weekends. Most of them probably have never gone to college and their future isn't looking too bright. I mean cars are great, but there is more to life than just building your car fast and racing it on the weekend.

Yea like sex, sports, and beer! I know what cha mean though. I've know a few people that kept spending their money on their cars for speed but mostly for looks when there money could of been spent on college, family, or to even get there on place. But hey while they're bringin girls home to mommy at the age of 20+ I'll have my own crib and a nice car-gotta love them fbirds

Re: There is more to life than cars

i'm sure those guys can make quite a carreer for themselves working with cars, like at an amg plant. they just gotta stop spending time on their own rides to work on other pple's rides.

Re: There is more to life than cars

I kind of doubt a shop like amg would hire them without an education.

I think they'll find themselves working as a mechanic for a local shop when they're 40. Either that, or in prison for killing someone while street racing.

Re: There is more to life than cars

This is exactly why you need to set limits for yourself. Either set time, money, or horsepower limits for a car. For me, I'm gonna stop modding my car at 300whp or one year after high school, whichever comes first. Then its off to bigger and better things. The thing is to have passion, not obsession with something. Especially something as expensive as cars.

Re: There is more to life than cars

There's a local board for me that's like that...but they don't have jobs their parents buy them everything they want. It's like very regular members 10-15 of them being very good friends that decided to run a forum and everyone else just kinda lurks around.

Exactly.

Thats what I'm shooting for this summer. Gonna enroll into UTI in Houston this summer and hopefully get hired by Benz, BMW, and if I'm a good boy, Porsche.

The biggest killer is the time it takes to go through all the training programs. Even though you're learning all this stuff, you're still having to fend for yourself finacially wise with shitty jobs until you graduate. It'll be worth it though.
