Re: grand am turbo, upgrades?

Now as far as the original question, do a full tuneup, if you are going to get more hp, do it safely. Start with new plugs, wires, and a new fuel filter. Make sure the car is running healthy...now it's time for more boost. Get a boost controller, do a search online, you can find a manual boost controller from Proboost shipped to your door for under $25. I don't know much about your car, so I don't know what the stock boost settings are, or how accurate your boost gauge(if you have one) is. Get an accurate boost gauge and find out exactly how high you can turn up the boost without getting knock(pre-detonation). You may need to upgrade your fuel injectors and fuel pump to handle a significant increase in boost...again, I'm not familiar with that car's setup. Be careful...too much boost = busted pistons. When you turn up the boost, start using premium gas to retard knock. Lastly, you may need an Air/Fuel controller if you upgrade your injectors and/or fuel pump to properly tune for the extra fuel. Hope this helps a bit. Also I should have mentioned this earlier, but breathability is a turbos friend...open up the intake and exhaust, make them more free-flowing to get more power out of that turbo.

Re: grand am turbo, upgrades?

Ive got a 86 Turbo G/A sitten in my backyard. I never drove it cause its been parked there since before i had a license, but all it needs is an alternator and a cat. converter (it kept backing up) to get it up and running again. I could just cut the cat. off and straight pipe it, but i dont know if its worth the work to get it running. since i never even drove the car, nor do i know what type of turbo is in it, i dont know if its any fast at all. The turbo looks pretty small though, and since its been sitten there for so long, ill bet the injectors and the fuel pump are all clogged up. are these things really worth putting work into?
