Re: Old Subject, New Pictures: Bad Oil

Guys, I just thought of something... I noticed the water (or foam) is on the top of the oil... thus is explaining it on the dipstick. But if you take a glass of oil, and pour water into it, the water sinks right down to the bottom of the oil. All the same if you take a glass of water and pour oil into it, the oil sits on top. So if this really is water, then why would it be sitting on the top of the oil and I be getting it on the dipstick? Just a thought that came to mind the second I listed the previous post.

It's getting slung up there by the crank. It really is true that if there's enough water to show up on the stick like that, then there's more than the trivial (tablespoon or two) that condensation would cause.

Lets also remember, that if it is coolant, than it is probably more than just water. Anything you add to water can change its density (although might only be slightly). Remember, if something is more dense, it will in a mixture sink to the bottom, while if it is less dense, it will rise to the top. Now, if we change the density of a known substance such as water, that could affect if it rises o sinks in a mixture with another liquid.

I was wondering, are you seeing any oil in the water? You would probably see it separate in the coolant recovery tank by now. I still like the PCV valve suggestion.
