Painting the interior tub of a VW

Hi all
Im kinda new to modelling and am currently building a motorized tamiya VW for my gf, and the painting to the interior tub is doing my head in. namely, getting sharp lines between the different colours.
Ive tried to use a acrylic wash over the flat grey to run along the edges and produce a sharp edge, but with no luck, it wouldnt flow over the paint.
Ive been thinking of masking the areas, but it looks really difficult to do, especially around the back seat and centre console.

Does anyone have any suggestions as how i could paint around the interior centre console etc.. but to also acheive sharp, consistent edges??

Thanks in advance!

Re: Painting the interior tub of a VW

I personally like using liquid mask. Brush it on, cut your seperation lines with a sharp hobby knife, and peel away the area you want to paint. When building larger models or doing body color seperations, I usually use tamiya 2 or 3 mm masking tape for the edge, and low tack wall tape for the larger area.

Re: Painting the interior tub of a VW

hey dude, thanks alot for the reply.... i was on the verge of throwing out the bug coz of all the headaches and sleepless nites the interior was causing me (the rest of the car has come out superbly, and i didnt want to ruin it with a shonky interior)

Thanks again!!!!!, and ill try n post some pics when im done...

ps: is there any particular brand of l/mask u recommend?

A New Beetle, but not the same one.
All masked with 3M blue masking tape. On the Tamiya Beetle I'm working on now, I used tamiya tape for the edges and the blue to fill the large areas.
Yes, in the pix you can see little mistakes, these were all touched up with a fine brush.
