Re: do i have a interfarence engine {95.5 3.2 passport}

No need to be confused. ALL isuzu 3.2/3.5's (1993-2004) are non-interference. Just the way they should be!

Re: do i have a interfarence engine {95.5 3.2 passport}

I am a little confused also. I have a 1995, not 95.5, but, I just did my timing belt job and did not line up the marks before tackling the job. Got all confused and had to move crankshaft and cams independent of each other... I figured that if the valves hit the pistons I would not be able to turn the camshaft. Either I got lucky or it is not interference, or what I call zero tolerance. In my case I deemed it not zero tolerence.. Then I read on another site that some people had blown timing belts with 1995's and bent their valves....? Maybe at slow speeds your ok, but if going high speeds the piston hits the valves??? As a teenager I used to blow timing chains in Honda 100-125s, always bent the valves.....

Some manuals are incorrect in calling the 1993+ isuzu 3.2/3.5 interference as they are not. I've never heard of one smashing, even at speed, in ~5yrs of hanging around these boards.

Re: do i have a interfarence engine {95.5 3.2 passport}

I have a 10-94 Isuzu Rodeo. It is an interference engine, I can tell you first hand because my valves got bent last Saturday...

Re-did timing belt, idlers and tensioner. It ran for about 10 minutes, then I gather one cam spun on the belt "Whack". A few minutes later the other camshaft spun on the belt "Whack, Whack, Whack... I no longer have straight valves........

I took the timing belt covers off expecting to find a ripped up belt. Nothing looked wrong, tension was good.

The only think I could think was that I was off 1 tooth on the belt? Maybe the pressure was still in the cylinder and the valve opening was a bit delayed, causing the need for a greater force to open the valves?

Oh well, I am a little depressed right now.

I hope this note is up to Canuckleheads standards.....

Anybody have a reasonably priced Rodeo Engine for sale.....?

Wow, just found this information:

http://consumeraffairs.com/automotiv...ming_belt.html

I was about to buy another rodeo this weekend, I am re-thinking this. I guess I can consider myself lucky with 208000 miles.

Re: do i have a interfarence engine {95.5 3.2 passport}

could it be that only some castings are interference and others are normal? i'd like to know the answer to this on going question.

although--it would be a great excuse to drop a 4.3 GM engine in the passport....

This is the first in ~5yrs I've ever heard. Are you sure the cylinder heads havent been shaved/trued at some point? I've seen many posts of broken on the fly T-belts and wrong valve timing on 1993-2000+ 3.2's and no reports at all of smashing.

Re: do i have a interfarence engine {95.5 3.2 passport}

I just bought a new car... So, I don't have the urgency to get the Rodeo repaired imediately. I am going to take the cylinder heads off and have a look in my spare time. I have started, and boy this engine is complex... I remember how easy working on my 68 Chevelle 6 cylinder was....

My belief is that the problem is camshaft bearing wear. I believe when I put the new belt and tensioner in the belt became tight and caused the worn bearings to freeze.....

I will post my findings when the heads come off.
