what is the previsional liscence for? do you have to have that until a certain age or because you have a bad record or what?

Yeah over in the Eastern States of Australia. When you first get your licence its called a previsional licence and you have to have a plates showing on your car with a big "P" on it showing that your a P-plater. Im not sure how long you have to stay on P-plates for in the Eastern states but over in WA its 2 years. It just limits you in the things you can do when you first get your licence. I think it limits the amount of passengers you can have in the car as well as well as restrict you from driving around late at night but im not too sure of the last 2.

These rules are there for when you first get your licence to stop young dickheads that dont know how to drive, getting powerful cars and having their matesd egg them on to do stupid shit and end up killing themselve cuz they have no idea how to drive. Good idea actually. But if I was on P-plates I would be PISSED if that rule applied to me. Im not sure how long you have to stay on P-plates for in the Eastern states but over in WA its 2 years.

thats nuts...they are kinda trying to do these kind of things in the US.

for example, they passed a law in IL not too long ago that says anyone under the age of 18 cant drive with a cell phone and cant have more than 1 other passengers to prevent distraction. but we definitely do not have a big P on your liscence plates.

US is usually behind everyone else by a few years and behind the Japanese a few decades so i am sure it is all coming.

Re: targa conversion

In NC they have to drive -1- year with a permit and when they get the licences they have -6- months provision that they can only drive with a non-family member under 21 yrs of age until 9 pm. They can drive after 9pm with any family member that has there licences and can drive after 9pm if they are coming from work or running a call with a volunteer fire dept. After -6- months they can drive after 9pm with no more than -2- people under 21 yrs old if they had no infractions in the 1st 6 months.
