pretty funny eh?

you cannot judge the importance of another culture's symbol.
if i presented that jesus cartoon to some muslims, do you think they would view it the same as, lets say, a priest?

BUT, i do believe these riots have less to do with cartoons and more to do with everything else; the war in iraq, middle east tensions, or just the general distrust of the west.
these cartoons simply gave them a reason and some justification(every little bit helps ).
The funny thing (as I understand it and as Mellowboy has explained) is that in Islam, Jesus is also a prophet of God. So by your posting that cartoon, the reaction of the people of Islam should be identical to the reaction they gave when Mohammad was portrayed. But I bet it won't be.

As a Christian, I don't really like the cartoon you posted; but that doesn't mean I'm going to go out and burn things down and kill people -- that would be wrong, and against the teachings of Jesus (and Mohammad as well).

I agree with your perspective that the cartoons furnished a reason.

Do Muslims riot when someone eats pork? Are they breaking into restaurants demanding that it be taken off the menu?

Don't like what's getting printed? Complain to management and cancel your subscription. Clamp down on the nutjobs firebombing embassies and calling for the beheading of cartoonists and publishers.
Good points all, Yogs. Again, no reason to burn embassies worldwide. I think this shows how extreme some of the people involved are.

And the previous points that all the rioters are young men has now been shown to be incorrect. In Muscletang's article, the interviewee was a 40 year old man. With a male life expectancy of 42.71 years (from http://www.cia.gov/cia/publications/.../geos/af.html), that would make this individual a very old man. In fact, I would go as far as to say that with that life expectancy even a 20 year old male is close to middle aged.

Re: Bit touchy about that are we?

This type of rioting may be inexcusable, but it is not isolated to any one race or religion. People all around the world have flipped cars, looted and burned shit in response to events just as (or even more) trivial than this. A jury verdict, or the outcome of something as inconsequential as an athletic game, have prompted similar responses in many countries around the world. I'm not saying this justifies the actions, but I think some just want to use the present incident as justification to hate a specific group even more.

Re: Bit touchy about that are we?

Do the Danes know something we don't? Maybe there really aren't any more virgins for the martyrs.

Perhaps they're just trying to get people to stop blowing themselves up.

I listened to an interview on NPR this morning, with a gentleman from France. The muslim world reviles the US, but he talked about intolerance in the EU towards muslims, and how it's on the increase.

Those violent protests aren't helping the cause............

OK, now I saw this online:

http://www.tshirthell.com/miscpages/newshirt588n.htm

And although obviously designed to fan the flames, I thought the shirts to be funny. Mohammad (the prophet) is not portrayed directly.

Comments? Or should this be a new thread?

Yeh well Im more eduacated then they are. They dont realized that during the Prophets (pbuh) was insulted by Quraish tribe numerous of times and he did not sent anyone to kill whoever insulted him.
