I find this whole situation to be rather comical, really. It goes to show just how %&^*#% stupid people really are -- and not just a few people, but the millions upon millions of people who see one side of this or the other as an affront. This is EXACTLY why society will never be able to move beyond petty wars and sorry-ass ignorance.

I myself couldn't care less about what some newspaper sees fit to publish under the guise of "free speech". You want to mock Islam? Fine. You want to satirize the Holocaust? All the power to you. Should we give a shit what ANY newspaper sees fit to publish in its pages in an attempt to flare tempers? Take a guess. People get so bent up about what others feel, think, or say, that they forget the fact that what other people say really doesn't mean a shit -- if there IS anyone out there who actually takes this stuff as truth, then they deserve to remain ignorant and stupid for the rest of their life (or until they get a wakeup smack.)

A leading American newspaper could publish a picture of Mohammed fellating a camel and a leading Islamic paper could publish a picture of Christ taking Hitler from behind, and the only thing I would lose sleep over is the fact that people would actually get bent out of shape over it.

This kind of shit only has as much value as people choose to assign it, and right now, there is a whole lot of people bathing in their own stupidity by giving this stuff any value.

The riots that are going on in the Islamic countries show us just how radical these people really are. If they are willing to trash diplomatic missions over something as simple as a cartoon like the one above then I agree with fredjacksonsan that we need to start some riots because they insult our religious figures all the time. I guess I am just a civilized Infidel since I would never dream of stooping to that level!

Arab or Muslims? Not all arabs are muslims. Get it straight next time. Eitherway you will not find any muslim cartoonists insulting any holy figure. In Islam it is forbidden to draw realistic figures and holy figures. That includes Jesus(pbuh) and Mary (as).

As you guys noticed that these muslims are young muslims. They do not know any better. How many of you guys get into trouble when you were young and you were at that rebel stage? Well its the same thing with these punks who just use Islam as excuse to cause trouble. One of our well respected/known Islamic Scholar figure is tryin to end this riot and violence because not only its making us muslims look bad but its against Islam to react such things.

And not all Muslims are Arabs. I simply used the term "Arab" as a catch all for the Middle Eastern peoples that are currently rioting, and to convey that meaning succinctly. No slight was intended. If I'd put in the amount of detail describing these peoples that would be necessary to satisfy everyone that could have issue with it, I'd still be typing.

Regardless of whether you believe in "figures" or not, you have to admit that getting stirred up and rioting over a cartoon is a bit overreactionary. You don't see any Christians rioting because of Larry Flynt's cartoons in Hustler. Perhaps the Danish artist did not know that it was sacrilege to portray Mohammad. Perhaps he did. I haven't seen a statement either way.

Have you watched the news lately? Afghanistan/Pakistan/Indonesia/India/Croatia/Romania etc... are not middle eastern countries.Theres violent protest all over the place....

I've been away for a bit, so haven't seen the news of the riots in other countries....and now that taking a look online, I see.

So, is it truly sacrilege to portray Mohammad in a drawing or other artwork? What of the other messengers?
