Hey all im new to the board. I'm am getting ready to buy a S13 and do the SR20DEt swap. I have been doing research to check into gettin around the smog nazi's and found this, http://www.jagsthatrun.com/Pages/Che..._V-8_Smog.html . It's not in direct reference to this swap but should still apply. You would just have to put all the smog crap on the sr. Get a bung welded onto your maifold for an egr, get whatever ger came on the USDM SR20 and stick in on there plus a cat. Has anyone tried this?

it wouldnt pass visual because there was no SR20DET in the US. there were other SR's but not the turbo one. also due to the lack of USDM turbo SR20's i dont think you could pull off your idea. it would have to be custom. i think...

Do you think they would know the difference between and Sr20de with an aftermarket turbo kit on it and a SR20det that came that way? I havent had to deal with getting by smog before. OR? Could do it with a no turbo manifod on there. Not that hard to get one. I have a buddy who has 2 200sx se-r's. |

Unfortunatly the way to pass it means going through a DMV referee. They know their shit very well. The way motor swaps work is, the exact motor you put in, has to have been in a U.S. car. It must have a USDM ecu as well that matches the motor. All the smog stuff needs to go into your car. That means the smog stuff from a car of your year or newer, that came with the motor you want to swap in. It is a difficult process even for the honda guys swapping b16's and b18's. My friend did a b18c1 and had to get all the smog equipment from a gsr integra, including ecu. He went back three times until he was ok'ed. The referee has a diagram that shows every little smog plug that needs to be there.
That said, it's not worth it. Go find a guy that will pass you car in a way that wouldn't be considered legal. |

You find someone who does it for test only. There used to be a lot of people who did it, now there are very few. With a little luck and some work, you should be able to find someone. Keep in mind, they will probably need to trust you before they give you any info. I would start making friends with guys at performance shops.
