Hi Scott, I was thinking of doing my wifes car also. It just went 101,000 and read the timing belt should be changed. We also got that oil leak on head last year. I've changed some parts but not a expert. Can a average guy do it with an hour a day and the book? Any thing I need to watch out for.

If you are referring to the timing belt, then yes the average guy can do it with a manual. You will need to change the tensioner pulley and the water pump at the same time. All for preventative maintenance. The hardest/toughest part is getting the harmonic balancer pulley off, but it will come off with the correct puller.
