the only weak link in the 3/S's drivetrain is the transfer case. ZX's and supra's dont don't have the same design because their engine is mounted transversly, and they are RWD. Usually the biggest problem for the transfer cases are on the launch, but they now make a metal cage for them that holds them in place. Of course with that, you will need solid motor mounts to keep both the engine and the transfer case mounted still so stress is taken off of them.

Anyways, when you start talking about a 9 second car, the reason you don't see 3/S's in the 9's is because you dont see people putting that much money into their cars. The people that i know with 9 second supras have put well over 50 grand into their car, not including the price they bought the car at. If done right, a 3/S can make it into the 10's with 10K. 15G's have yielded high ten's with the right set up, and those aren't very big turbos. I think its only a matter of time before the 3/S platform starts putting record breaking times down.
