fuel line leak D:

ok so i was just reconnecting my carb after taking it off when i changed freeze plugs. and i screwed the fuel line into the carb and tightened it as far it would tighten, started the car w/ start fluid and wala it started up no prob, but fuel is pouring out of where the fuel line goes into the carb, i tried pulling it out to check if it was cross threaded but the threads are fine and i screwed it back in, same thing. its a 64 nova 194 straight 6. the fuel line screws into this big nut in the the carb, so i unscrewed the nut and inside there is a spring, a little gold thing, then the nut which has a small red washer on it, that screws into the carb and the fuel line screws into it, the fuel line has like a little nozzlish looking thing at the end and threads, no washer or anything. am i missing something? or do i need to replace something? anyone have any idea? it looked like it was leaking between the big nut and the carb. aside from that the freeze plugs went great, i just poured super flush into the radiator and a load of water and was hoping to start it and flush it out but i cant let it run til i fix this, will that flush stuff ruin my cooling system?

The gold thing and spring is the filter assembly. Fuel flows through that burnished bronze thing and the spring holds it tight so fuel can't leak around it. The fitting that goes into that big nut should be a standard flare fitting, 45 degrees, just like your brake lines. There is no special thread so its not like you need teflon tape. The seal comes from the flare of the tube getting squeezed against the flare inside that big nut.

My guess is that you just need to make sure the big nut is seated properly in the carb. Some have a plastic gasket that goes inside at the base of that big nut and some have a gasket that goes just under the hex part of that nut. Either way, make sure you haven't lost a gasket somewhere.
