Re: Rattle in engine compartment

i wouldnt try, toytoa is usually stingy about transmission failure (acutally aalll places are) all they have to do is prove that you miss treat the tranny (if its a mnaul) and they wont replace it

thats good your gettign a new motor

another reason why toyota is superior to honda, they use non-interference engines, with interfereance motors you can also kiss a valve by mis fiering

Re: Rattle in engine compartment

in that case, no, but if its fine i wouldnt fuck with it, theres always a chance that they will say it got fucked up cuz hte dirver

a guy i know had a 350z and the engine sprung a pretty bad oil leak, they tire to say it was cuz of driver abuse, after only about 1000 miles, theres no way that could happen, he got it replaced after some fighting, but it just goes to show you how stingy dealers can be

Re: Rattle in engine compartment

I dont think matics are that easy to ruin. I mean, theres not much play in it, unless you're shifting rear gear- to stop your car or something. yeah, actually if dealers find broken teeth in your transmission, they'll say you're liable for misuse/ racing use... BTW, intereference engines... is it classsified by each engine type, or simply by manufacturers?? (i.e honda-inter , toyota-non inter) how can you tell, and how 'common' is this type of engine?

Re: Rattle in engine compartment

MOST (not all toyota enignes) use this, go and buy a chiltons manual itll tell u if your enigne is or isnt (4afe, 5sfe and 3sgte are non-interferance engines, hence why poeple can use 4agze pistons on a 20v 4age motor w/out cutting the new fly in it becuase it wont touch)

and i say honda uses interferance because almost all of them are, the D series are interferance, so are B and i beleve the K series is the only one that isnt but dont quote me on that

that prety much means if we break a timing belt, oh well get a new one and ur good to go, if they break one, your eitehr $1000 down if a shop rebuilds ur head or if you got the knowhow to do it you just wasted a couple hundred plus hours of time rebuliding it, plus theres the chance that the valve can actually break the piston

Well there is 53000 miles on the car right now. I don't think the transmisssion is going anywhere soon but I bought a 48,000 mile/2 year extended warranty when I bought the car at 46,000 miles approximatly.

Re: Rattle in engine compartment

tranny wont go anywhere anytime. I wonder if dealers will ever do auto to manual conversion for a ruined tranny case...
the mechanic I once knew is always paranoid about timing belt, and then he told me all about its use and everything...a friend of mine just bought a camry and the belt was the first he inspected. Scary thought, since its so close to the engine, and during hard use, you never know what could happen. Sometimes I wonder why wont they use gear system instead from the start...
Anyway, 01 celica GT, hows your car running now?

Yeah, my co-workers told me that if my transmission was ruined the dealer would to a manual conversion for the cost of all the labor they needed more to go like the clutch and the clutch pedal and stuff.

I would rather have a manual anyways but my car was such a good deal at the time that I couldn't pass it up. I can see now why it was a good deal because the engine was about to blow butI got it fixed.

I don't get my car back until tuesday or wensday. So i'll tell you when I get it back.

Re: Rattle in engine compartment

o. I see now why you've wanted to ruin your tranny....only "labor" huh? but then again dealer's labor is a bitch. They'll charge you 5 hours for 2 hours work at $80/hour. smm--art.

yeah dude, thats crap. They over price everything. When I first got my car my idle was REALLY low so I said "wtf, you guys sell me a junk car so fix it" well they brought it in and they charged me 106$ to "clean the throttle body"

They said it was not covered in the 30 day warranty.

Thats really gay

And it didn't even fix the low idle....

Re: Rattle in engine compartment

clean the throttle body??? wtf is that? why didn't they just adjust the idle-rpm-control-nut thing? they must've done the work first before telling you its not covered too.
