Under the dash just to the right of the center "hump" on the floor you will see a white square.(after removing the black cover) It is the blend door actuator. When you move the temp knob, this actuator opens or closes the blend door to mix the hot air from the heater core with the cool air from the a/c (or fresh air if a/c is not working). There are 4 or 5 screws to remove it. I had to go to a dealer to get the part--saw prices from $60-$80.
Mine failed and the rest position(open) was at the coldest setting....sounds like the same thing you have.
You might have to sit upsidedown with your butt on the back of the seat and your head under the dash---if you have a small rachet it will help with the screws in such a tight place...then you won't have to remove the whole dash.
Good luck, let me know if you have any more questions.

one other thing, my AC got stuck opn, no matter what i did, it ran full blast and made ice cold air come out. i disconnected the AC, but now all i get is lukewarm air. i have flushed cooling sys, but not core by itself. will try that today.
