Re: My Accent is slow

Look, nobody owns an Accent that's going to blow $$$ putting a different motor in it. I have an '03 with 50000 miles. It's been dependable, cheap, and good on gas. Which is what the Accent was built for. But, I was doing some things to get better fuel economy lately. I pumped up the tires so they're fairly hard, put in synthetic oil, and switched to a K & N air filter. The car's not fast. But, it's got much more zip than it used to have. I'd say that its 104 horsepower could now be 112 or so? And I don't have to worry about a better airfilter burning out the clutch either.

http://www.jrponline.com/gallery/med...7-2-accent.pdf

and there are other up here in Canada, In fact my sister's fiancee owns a highly modded 02 Accent that will be recieving some form of engine work. it may be getting the turbo set up form an s-coupe turbo, it may get the tib 2.0 beta and turbo it may get the 2.0 mitsu tsi motor. but that will be seen. In his club there is another Accent that is completely done and cleans up at shows all the time and not just best accent, most recent was best Asian car. that's vs Honda, toyota's and the likes!
Maybe tomorrow I'll be bothered to find some pics. not now too tired

I have a buddy that has a SHO and is having 6 custom pistons w/rings and to have them custom made was only 775 through rosspistons.com. I'm sure it'd be under 500 for a 4 cylinder and that's what people are paying for the ones on hyundaiperformance.com.

These two companies will make custom pistons/cams for any of our motors for as much as most companies are charging for pre-made components and with these you get the added bonus of picking compression ratio/cam duration.

Everyone does the beta swap mainly because cams, valves, pistons, rods, flywheels, etc. are all easily available.

If you have a 1.6 though it still has potiential, it'll just cost more to coax the power out of it.

Here is all the links for anything and everything you could want for a 2.0L Beta I/II motor.

Re: My Accent is slow

My girlfriend owns a 96 Accent that was really gutless. She had been running the car for 6-8 months with an engine light on, getting it shut off periodicly. When I got my hands on it and read the code it was the front oxygen sensor. Replaced that. It was better but not great so I went down to a wrecker and found a new catalitic converter from a newer Impala (much less restrictive) and welded that in. Threw in some 5w30 Mobil fully synthetic, and vrooooom! The cat had been plugged, running the car too rich for too long. Maybe that's what's wrong with your car. Total cost = $ 200 and worth every penny
