My Accent is slow

I just bought a 1998 hyundai accent
but before anyone makes fun of me, I got it for $1000 with 30,000 miles and a new trans. so I am happy

but I am wondering if there is anything out there to make it quicker.
I dont have alot of money but I more power to make it up my driveway

please dont recomend a tow truck

If I had the money, I would buy a road runner or a camaro

unfortunatly there isnt a lot of stuff out there for the accent. i drive an 04 and pretty much the only thing i can get for it is CAI and exhaust. sucks. if they came out with some internals that would be awsome, some cams or something lol. however u probably have some more options with ur older model. try www.hyundaiperformance.com they know their stuff. the only thing i can suggest is some basic bolt-ons. the usual intake, headers, exhaust. if u wanna go crazy, look into engine swapping.

Re: My Accent is slow

i would say save your money and keep the car. use it and save money for i awhile then trade it in on something brand new, work your credit up so you can go into a dealership and get what you want.(not saying you have bad credit or anything, just a thought) and get something that you can have as a starting block that is good.

Re: My Accent is slow

I can run through the gears pretty quick in a 1.5 standard. I'm not going to beat a Camaro but I take 3rd up to 60 if need be to get on a highway 1st to about 20 or so and 2nd to 40s. You gotta give it some juice unless you have an auto which is a mistake if you're looking to get this car to move. Otherwise, I do pretty okay considering how small the car is and the engine and all. Also use a K&N filter but notice no major difference except about $35. All the best.

He would then need a different trans and not the new one that's in it. Also this work would run him more then he paid for the car!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Also why not the Beta from a Tib??!!

Re: My Accent is slow

yeah and when you put that k&n filter in you might want to save some money for a new MAF cause when the oil from the filter contaminates the MAF it will cost you $100+ to replace the MAF but go ahead and listen to what ever "they" want to tell you or sell you.

hey why would you want to waste your money on getting a beta for a little 140 hp??? just save your money for something better i had a accent from2001-2004 and i did not put one penny into the engine cause it was not worth it. i saved my money and bought something that has a good starting point to go move up in hp. use your accent for driving to work, trips whatever , when you can buy a new car or a better starting car buy it and use the hyudai for all the waste mileage. i got a mitsu and am putting 170 hp out of it with a couple bolt on's and a few more and i'll be on the line of 200, not like that is alot of horse power . but my accent was lucky to put out 100 hp. but everyone has there own opinion so it's your choice

That's all in Austalian Dollars! They are based there!

The Eclipe 2.0 motor will fit easily into an Accent and is the motor used in the evos up to 3. It can take some punishment and can be good for about 340 hp with stock internals if you get a boosted version.

I've used one for 3 years in my Hyundai and 2 in my Dodge before that. I understand the problem with the MAF is usually due to someone re-oiling the cloth filter. I would recommend spending the $40 and getting a new one unless your name is Mr. Goodwrench. Aside from that I've had no problems with the MAF or Oxygen sensors and my car is a 2000 Accent. Was thinking about getting a new K&N and gas filter.

The key is preventive maintenance. I follow the severe conditions advice in the owner's manual and have had some stupid problems like loose wires causing a misfire and a shifter cable that broke but it's been 5 years and I've used fuel injector cleaner - Techron and I've used K&N filters both oil and air and they are far superior but I don't think they add anything much in the horsepower department so save your money if that's what you're thinking. As far as the filter and the MAF. If you re-oil it and don't do it exactly correct this can definitely happen; but I know of no one that had this problem from the K&N filter out of the box.

I am always open to the possiblity that I may be wrong. If so, please explain and I will stand corrected.

The oil contamination is form too much oil being applied and to the wrong side of the filter. It need to be done on the outside of the filer or it site on the metal mech inside and CAN but not alsways cause a problem, unless the filter is right on top of the TB the intake should stop the oil anyhow.

how much would that cost?

to SmilingBenny: get a turbo kit if they have one for it. that would get you some hp.
