Re: Rebuild my 700r4

Oh and morley was saying I should get a sun gear shell and a Corvette servo. And will I need a new converter?

There is only 1 band in the 700 R4. The 700 R4 uses clutch packs like any modern auto trans.
The B&M master kit comes with new clutch packs, steels, gaskets, a drain plug for the pan...everything you'd need except sprags. It also comes with a rather thick book of instructions which also lists the tools neded for the job. the kit cost $387 when I bought it from Summit.

The sun gear shell is the weakest part in the 700R4, replace it. If your converter is in good shape, you could flush it out throughly (with lots of clean trans fluid) and re-use it. Since you are going to be on a tight budget, that may be the way to go.

Re: Rebuild my 700r4

unless you've changed anything in the motor, no need for a new t/c. be sure to drain and fill it!!!!!

You want the shift kit because of when you go accelerate in lox 3rd, there's that big ass lag then the trans dumps to 2nd and practically rips the mount off the subframe, that problem will be solved along with a much crisper feeling trans all round.

The servo I can't vouch for, but I could ssee it's advantages and since you're there.... fill in the blanks.

after all this work, I wouldn't put your average run of the mill fluid in it. Give the synthetic treatment.

Re: Rebuild my 700r4

Thanks big time for all this info. Im still a little off about which kit I should get there was the b&m one from the summit store (BMM-70233) which seemed all right. Im also starting to wonder if anything was done to the tranny before I had it. I dont want to get a kit and have something not fit, belong, or worse yet everything seems okay but doesnt work at all.

Re: Rebuild my 700r4

Yea pump puller, and also there is another tool but the name escapes me. When u are putting these seals on the shaft they stretch when u slip them on, then u need to compress them till they shrink or else they will not completely seal, this tool does that, but i cant think of the name.

Re: Rebuild my 700r4

when in a desperate situation, two slide hammers, which is basically what a pump puller is will sufice, but it's a pain in the rear

Re: Rebuild my 700r4

hmm. I seriously hope that the kit or something comes with a list of tools. If one of you guys have some time it would make me feel alot more at ease about spending the cash if I could get your approval
on this kit http://store.summitracing.com/

In the description it says the 70232 & 70233 DO NOT come with full instructions.
The BMM-20230 has the complete instructions and tool list. That is the kit I used and sells there for $285.

I cant find that kit on there. I put in the car specs an the same 4 kits come up. Is the extra price just for the instructions?

my mistake..should be BMM-70230. The extra price is for more than the booklet, it comes with a few more parts you may or may not need...like a manual converter lockup switch, for use in non ECM controlled applications.
