99 olds silohette chattering

My olds silohette has 56000 miles on it and recently it has been chattering when I start off. It chatters for a second or two then stops.

It happens once or twice a day and always when starting off from a stop.

Also shifting hard at times.

Any ideas or suggestions?

thanks

Hello!! It sounds like you may have internal problems with your transmisson,(bummer!!). But my suggestion would be to have the transmisson fluid flushed,And have a new transmisson filter installed. Also I would check the vacume hose that connects to the vacume modulator,That would make a transmisson shift hard.Or you may have a torque convertor clutch solonoide going bad,Or the solonoide is hanging up.At least,Having the fluid and filter would be a cheap fix,(Real cheap if you can do it yourself). I did change my fluid and filter my self.(Been doing it for years!) You disconnect the lower tranny cooling line at the radiator,Get your self a rubber hose that will fit snug around cooling line(3/4 in fuel line hose should do,about 6ft of hose),And a five gallon bucket Buy two cases of the proper tranny oil (mercron) Remove transmisson dipstick,Have a funnel handy,Start engine, leave it at an idle, have a helper shift thru the gears with foot on brake, and start pouring tranny oil into transmisson. It will take about 18 to 23 quarts of oil to properly flush it.It can be done for less than fifty bucks! Then reconnect cooling line, start engine and check oil level.Take old tranny oil to a recycle center. Good luck,Have fun.. Diesel 1962...

Check this thread... http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbulletin/t398499.html. If your vehicle is 99 or up, I think you've got the 4T65E with solenoid pressure control instead of 4T60E with vacuum modulator.
