Hi,
The shutting down could be any number of things. Get your Volvo dealer to hook the car up to their computer to check for a fault code. It could be a sensor, or the fuel pump, or the ETM. or ?? The fuel pump can give intermittent problems like you have described. It's fault would not be recognised by the car's computer. The ETM - Electronic Throttle Management fly by wire control could an issue - and is the most sinister of all Volvo problems. There is a class action suit against Volvo going on in the States. A warning light on your instrument cluster would usually appear. See ETM issue here: http://vexedvolvo.org/ Let's hope it's a simple issue for you. Cheers ....... Nick Canberra Australia |

This was a friends car he took it to the Volvo Dealer and they put in a Anti-Theft Security Sensor of some type. This sensor reads the programming on the ignition key and attempts to match it to the programing of the car. If it doesn't match it thinks that the car maybe getting stolen and it shuts the car off. According to my buddy this fixed the problem. Chuck |

Hey Spit and Nick
Yes the part is a emobilzer located in the steering column. It makes sure the key your useing to start the car with is downloaded to the car. If it goes bad or reads the wrong key it will shut the car down and put it to sleep. We have had a few go bad here. LoL Check out www.myswedishparts.com it has more information on that problem.
