sigh... this topic always comes up...
[quote=GTO MR}well interesting reading .. i own a gto mr , yes the MR stands for mitsubishi racing , the engine is up front , the MR had the aero actives removed and a fixed spoiler fitted to lose weight they removed the cruise control to lose weight and the four wheel steering as this is heavy .. the engine pushes 320 bhp standard as the other gto's push 280 standard .. very brief description and hope this helps a bit ..
Yes!! All true! Except in Japan the engine was "officially" still rated at 280hp (206kw) due to the gentlemens agreement. MR GTOs have the exact same gearing as a TT GTO. This gearing IS different to a USDM VR4. Also ABS became an option on the MR rather than a standard feature.
Ok I've never seen a stock MR run that quite quick before, not to say that it isnt possible, just that i have never seen it. I have a vid of one running a 12.8 which is still bloody fast. I'm pretty sure that fastest Japanese stock production car is the R32 V-spec 2. The R33 vspec can pull a 12.7 sec 1/4 and the R32 vpec2 has exactly the same engine but in a slightly light shell. So theoretically it should be faster. The saving in weight on an MR GTO vs a TT GTO is dependant on year. MRs 94-95 1650kg 95-98 1680kg 98-99 1670kg TT GTOs 94-98 1710kg 98-99 1680kg When i get a chance ill write everything i know about MRs up in some sort of reasonable manner and pm it to Ingovert so he can put it into the FAQ for you guys. -Anthony

Re: Gto Mr?
MR is called mid engine because the engine is in front of the rear wheels and the transmission behind it. RR cars have the engine behind the trans and axel, or are configured in a transverse style, just in the rear of the car instead of the front like a FWD or FF car.

Re: Gto Mr?
The vr-4 has 320 hp not 280 and the mr im pretty sure has more than 320 given it has 13g turbos

Re: Re: Gto Mr?
The MR never had 13g turbos. 13g's were only an option for Euro spec 3k's. The thing that made the MR faster than US spec cars was it being lighter and the JDM gearing. That is all. It had the exact same power as a regular GTO TT.

Re: Gto Mr?
so than if a euro spec'd gto with 13gs did the free boost mod and or the BPUs it would be the fastest out of all of them or what??? I mean becuase technically, couldn't you boost higher with the bigger turbos or what?>

yes, you can always 'boost higher', but with 13g's compared to 9b's, both at a given boost level, the 13g will produce more power (provided all other parameters are equal) than the 9b simply because the 13g is a 'larger turbo'.

Only in Japan were they GTO's. The GTO's in Europe were brought over from Japan. A 13g 3000gt would need to upgrade injectors before it turns up the boost too high. The major factor for the lower et's is the JDM gearing.
