Very true, but then again he hasn't said anything. I mean, it's a good bet accerleration is a big part of what he wants, but it that all he's concerned with? Meaning all out accerleration with no regard for streetablity or highway use. Is he more concerned with max top speed like the moron here in Portland that was got a $6,000 fine, one week in jail, and had his car impounded for going 142 mph on I-205 with not insurance and a suspended license (third fastest speed someone has been clocked at on a highway...makes you wonder what 1 and 2 are...oh then the idiot drives it off the impound lot, still suspended license and no insurance...WITH new camras recording...now he may be charged for that too...).

Always, sorry to get off topic . I agree, accerleration is definatly one factor of importance to him, but until he chimes in and says exactly ALL he is concerned with/looking for, etc...we are all just speculating.

Wow it's been awhile since I first posted this. The first reply to my question came about 4 months after I posted it. I needed to make a decision right away. I ended up keeping my original Si tranny. I had all new carbon coated syncros put in and basically had the tranny rebuilt. Now I am having transmission problems again. I have decided to get a used tranny now. I just put in a bid on ebay for a ITR tranny and THEN I stopped by here (backwards order maybe?).

Anyway I am looking for the best all around tranny with acceleration being very important and highway driving being pretty important. Top speed is less important.

Thanks

Re: Re: Best Tranny for 99 Civic Si?

Well, I was outbid on the ITR tranny. It's probably for the best though. He had too much negative feedback anyway.

I did a little research and it looks like USDM ITR's have the same gear ratios as my Si tranny does. The JDM ITR has similar ratios but has a shorter final drive (4.785 vs 4.400). There's a JDM for sale on ebay right now but no USDM's. I'd love to try the shorter final drive (I care less about top end) but I wonder if first gear might end up being too short. I already have some wheelspin at the top of first. So I might be best off waiting for a USDM to surface. Any thoughts on this would be appreciated.

Thanks,
M
