Question GST to GSX conversion?

Hey everyone that is reading this must know a little bit about DSM's. Thats my assumption so what i want to do is get some advise about my goal over the next few weeks. A buddie of mine is selling me his 95 TSi. It has no motor or tranny. But thats not why i want it. I want to take the drive trane off and bolt it on to my GST! A few questions to all.
1. Can i do it?
2. What major modification do you think it will take to get the 4 wheel drive to work with my 99 gst?
3. The bodies and lengths are the same right?
4. The only parts i need are the rear diff, fuel tank, drive shaft, axels, transfer case, and wiring for the fuel tank. Any i forgot?
5. Any advise?
6. I have a lift and standard tool for the job anything specific you htink i will need.

I will have a full install guide on my homepage after the install and those who have helped me in the process will get an email and a shout out on the page!
for those who would like to see the pages about other installs here is my page.

Re: GST to GSX conversion?

Its easier if u

1) take the engine off your gst and put it into the tsi awd.

2) get a new tranny if the gst tranny wont fit.. i think its all the same tranny awd or not.

3) if u only wanted to turn your gst to awd because it was from your eclipse than just take off your bumpers/headlight/skirts and put it onto the tsi with minimum trouble.

It would be easier the way i said it because WHY in the world would u want to change the drivetrain of the car when u have a perfect shell right there and u have a gst (workin)? You would need to weld/custom fab etc.

Re: GST to GSX conversion?

Well I did that swap in my gs-t, and it worth it, I had a totaled shell from a tsi Awd, I took off all the parts i was going to need, i did need to fabricate a couple of things, but it's possible, and can be done (if you have the tools and the place to do it), check my page and you will have a better idea of what you'll have to do.
this links will help as well:

AF also has a project car they did it to. Look on the Eclipse subforum and it's on the bottom under problem diagnosis. And there is a write up on dsmtuners.

Re: GST to GSX conversion?

Thanks yea i would just swap the engine but the TSI is totaled. Well the front end it smashed up. and so it the back. the drive trane is still perfect. The only thing i need is a new transfer case becuse it was sold with the engine and tranny before i bought the car.
