96 Sebring
I have a 96 Sebring Convertible and drive daily. Runs looks great. Has 85,000 miles. I replaced the drivebelt and water pump recently. Didnt have visible problems but was told it was worth doing if I was keeping the car. The water pump was cracked and on last leg when they got it out so it was probably good to do. I love the car

Just wanted to add that I have a 97 Sebring JX with the 4 cyl and it has 103,000 miles on it and it still runs great, better than it did at 83,000.

Bought a very clean white 2000 JX w/black ragtop 3 months ago w/67K on it, and absolutely LOVE it...had the front brakes done to head off any probs (hear Sebrings are notorious for brake probs), and slapped on some new Kuhmo tires and alloy wheels (highly recommend TireRack.com, awesome service & prices)...had wanted the hardtop coupe but it is NOT the same car (found it sluggish, heavy, gutless)...only big complaint I have so far is trying to find a manual so I can change the plugs myself (3 are easily accessed, the other 3 buried way in back somewhere)...

Re: Sebring Convertibles
I have a 2000 Sebring Convertable JX 2.5L V6 with 114,000 Miles and still runs strong. Only probs I have is the top leaks a little on passenger side and keeps blowing blower motor resistor packs (just here recently).
To replace the back 3 plugs you need to remove the upper air intake plenum. Remove the 6-8 bolts on the upper plenum and the 2 bolts on the sides. The two bolts (1 on each side) hold brackets to the upper intake. You will also need to remove the EGR tube from the plenum and 2-3 vacuum tubes. Plus remove misc sensor connectors. If I remember correctly that is all I had to to replace mine. I recemmend replacing both gaskets as well (upper intake gasket and the egr tube gasket. |

Thank you both for your comments, tips, and advice...I've noticed that my two front windows leak at the car wash but only when I blast them directly with horizontal spray...there's a seam in the weatherstripping (top side, right in the center, where two lengths meet) that the window glass rests against when closed that doesn't seem to be very substantial...guess it's the price we pay for owning ragtops. The rainy season in the Bay Area is fast approaching, guess I'll find out how the car does when what little rain we get falls...the previous owner said she had no probs, and based on what I see in the car (no rust, stains, damp smells, etc), don't think I'll have other water probs, but you never know. In addition to replacing my own spark plugs, now I have to tear apart my passenger side door panel...the idiot at the car wash slammed it too hard the other day and I heard something break off and fall down inside and now the panel wiggles a bit...I know something came off or broke off...anyway, still love the car, hate racking up the miles on it, but can't stay away from it...!

In reference to my earlier comment about hearing something "break off" inside my passenger side door when this idiot at the car wash slammed it too hard, I took apart the door panel and discovered what it was: two small white round gear-like discs that hold the window in place, securing it to a plate that slides up & down in the tracks came loose and fell off...for awhile, I couldn't figure out what they were or where they went, 'til I noticed that window glass itself had two perfect round smooth-edged holes in it where the discs fit into...once prob was solved, I figure I saved myself a good $300...

I bought my '97 two years ago with 61,000 miles on it. The only major repairs I've had to make is to have the calipers replaced. Just recently the passenger side power window does not decend but does go up.
Anyway, I love my car and would purchase another in a heartbeat!! |

I love it, I have a 97 with 133k on it. Some minor problems with it, one which I fixed thanks to this forum. The odometer and tach would only come on about once a month, but it is fixed now! Another problem i had was flooding, that too was fixed thanks to this forum, there are 3 drain holes on each side which were plugged, cleaned em out with a coat hanger. Its a fun car, yes I agree with some other poster, its a chick magnet.
enjoy !!

Re: Sebring Convertibles
i drive a 99 sebring convertible. 78 k, runs great. No problems at all pretty much since ive bought it(minus usual things like replacing brakes). 1 annoying thing is that the seatbelt gets entangled a lot but thats really it. Its overall a good car, but with any buy of course, get it checked by a mechanic.
